Thank you so much, I do give Apache eggs, yogurt (which he loves), boiled
chicken, sweet potatoes..he loves veggies, and ground beef....I do usually give
him what I eat and he has his dog food . I read up on what dogs can and cannot
have before I started feeding him my food. I do not add salt to anything but
the water my noodles are boiled in, but he does not get any salt, onion or
garlic...those I know he cannot have for sure....Apache was 4 and a half weeks
old when we got him, and everyone was telling me that he should only get store
bought food....but, when he stopped eating canned food and was so little, what
was I suppose to do, let him starve, so I took it upon myself to do some
research on what he could and could not have and made him homemade food, he is
11 pounds now and perfectly healthy. This group has confirmed for me that I did
the right thing, so thank you for that. Apache is definetely a spoiled
Prince.....but he gives so much back in
 return.
I used to think Chihuahua's were mean little ankle biters too, boy was I
wrong...I cannot imagine my life without Apache...he is loved by all of our
family and friends and he loves to make new friends when he can....sorry this
is so lengthy...Have a Great Day!

Hugs,
Connie

My Vet didn't say anything about to much protein but I do buy natural cat food
for them.  She only said that it has to much fat in it which makes the dogs fat
which in turn I guess and cause kidney problems.  Please becareful with the
milk, Dogs and Cats can't process the lactose in the milk (I have to drink
lactose free so my milk is ok for them but I still don't give it to them),
which can cause them stomach problems.

Ok ladies I will give more recipes.  Let me give some history first.  Palido is
our first Chihuahua honestly before him I never wanted chi's for the simple
reason I always heard they were nosey little ankle biters. LOL how wrong I
was.  when we rescued Palido I did a lot of research on Chihuahua's.  Palido
ended up being my mom's dog so I went out and bought nevaeh (Tianna's mom), and
we found out that palido could bark at that time.  For like three months we
didn't even know he could bark LOL.

ok to the food I hand raised tianna from day one after nevaeh passed from
having anemia from having such a large liter.  4 days later I lost 5 of
tianna's siblings, they were premature plus I had a heating pad that would shut
it self off, at the time I thought this was a good idea but now regret it.  I
fell asleep, the heating pad shut off and I didn't wake up in time to turn it
back on before the babies got cold.

I feed tianna puppy milk till it was about time for her to be weaned, at that
time I would add baby cereal to her milk, the rice, oatmeal, and mixed.  I
started with the rice for a week, then the oatmeal for a week and then the
mixed for a week, to make sure she could tolerate them. After I knew she could
tolerate them I would do a different one every day.

At her 6 week check up the vet said that she has never seen a healthier puppy
and Tianna didn't have worms.

Ok now a little about me, I don't add salt to any of my food, I may put salt in
when cooking a homemade meal but most of the time I don't.  The only time I do
add salt to a meal is when I am making noodles and that is because I found out
the hard way that you have to.  I am a very picky eater, I don't like
chocolate, have to drink lactose, fat free milk, and don't care for ice cream.

Tianna eats what I eat, not table scraps, I make her a plate, or bowl of what I
eat. because I am such a picky eater she can eat anything I eat.  I do have to
watch the kids and husband because they ended up getting her to 10lbs, oh and
ladies please if you have cats put their food up where you chi can't get it.
Cat food has a lot of fat that chi's don't need and it makes them fat.  I took
away the cat food and watch the kids and my husband like a hawk to make sure
Tianna doesn't get any foods that will make her fat again.

I cook with olive oil which is very good for dogs, I also feed tianna yogurt,
oatmeal, eggs besides what I eat.

Again the Vet can't believe how healthy Tianna is (and yes she does know I feed
her my food) and Tianna has never had worms.  Actually the cats eat more my
food then theirs and they have never had worms either.

As a treat I will my chicken liver and gizzards and cook them up for my animals
(all but Tianna are rescues.).

I have a whole book of recipes for dogs I have made these recipes for the
animals and my kids and husband love them too. LOL

I am very sick with a bronchial, sinus thing and because this is so long right
now  I am going to lay down for a little bit.  I did give some good foods to
feed them for now and when I get up will send a recipe or two.

I'm sorry I just can't stop coughing long enough to do much right now.

Will send soon I promise,
cim

I am interested in knowing more about home made foods and recipes...I would
really appreciate it. I had asked about this in other dog groups I was in, but
they would not help me.....as for water, I am all about filtered or bottled
water, preferably bottled. I hate tap water and do not drink it.

I dont use tap water either. I use OZARKA bottled water. I am feeding her Mares
recipe. The chicken, pumpkin, sweet potatoe, veg-al mixture. What else is a
good food? I am not using dog food either. Thanks! Yis

I give my chi's bottled water.  The only time this reverse sneeze comes back is
when I run out of bottled water and have to give them tap water.  Tap water has
fluoride and chlorine in it which is bad for dogs especially Chihuahuas.  I
have tried filtered water they still have the reverse sneeze just not as much
or as bad.  I also have found that some bottled water does it also.  I get the
nestle, or fountain mountain.  if the bottled water is on sale I read the label
to make sure it has no fluoride or chlorine in it. but be careful they do hide
those in big fancy words.

The other day my husband feed palido and Tianna hot dogs and the did the
reverse sneeze so now they aren't allowed that.

I have done a lot of research on what to feed Chihuahuas and what not to.  The
only thing is they never said much about their water.  I found this out
actually just by spoiling the heck out of my dogs LOL.  I don't like water
especially tap water I at first got the bottled water for me but after a month
of sharing with palido his reverse sneeze went away so now that is all my dogs
get.

If you have any more questions about foods for Chihuahuas I can help there also
but keep in mind I don't really believe in feeding them dog food.  I do
supplement Tianna's diet with dog food but don't like giving it to her at all
I can explain this if you all want but I think this is getting pretty long lol.

I call that a Chihuahua cough it does sound like they are having an asthma
attack.  When we first got palido that scared me to death and the vet said and
what I read on the internet said it was normal for Chihuahuas.  My chi's don't
do it any more I found a way for them not to the only time they do it now is if
I run out of what I give them to get rid of it or some foods do it which I
found out last week end.

kennel cough does take a bit to get over, it is more of a honking type cough,
when yuo press on their trachea they usually cough ( if they have kennel cough)
antibio's wont help get rid of kennel cough, but will help it turn into
pneuomnia ;-) if it is kennel cough it does need to run its course, it could be
a cold also, one of my dogs is coughing quite a bit lately and havent been
anyplace to pick up kennel cough .. so it might just be the change in weather ,
like how it makes us sick ;-)

When I got Lacy a month ago, she started coughing after having her a week. The
vet put her on ten days antibiotics and she got a little better. The previous
owner said it was kennel cough and it would run its course in 2 weeks. She is
still coughing. Cant go back to the vets yet. Anyone familiar with kennel
cough? Thanks, Yis
