What sofware you run in the way of keeping your computer running at its optimal
speed depends on, first if you want to spend money on it or go w/freeware,
second what you use also depends on what connection speed you have in accessing
the internet. I have cable satellite internet which is incredibly faster than
dial-up, but not up to T1, closer to cable on the upload and download speeds. I
run freeware that I must manually run on a regular basis. Microsoft also has
software already on your machine. Run disk Cleanup on all hard drives, then run
Disk Defragmentor on all hard drives. Reboot and you should see a fair amount
of improvement. Everyone should be running some sort of firewall and antivirus
protection at a minimum, spyware software depending on connection speed.
