If anyone has a great breeder girl that is just to small to breed, let Em foster her for a while...I promise she will grow then, lol Seriously folks, a chi is a chi is a chi. Just like any other living thing, they come in all sizes and those tiny little things are no more "pure-bred" than the bigger ones. The bigger ones are usually the result of breeding other bigger ones.....we could take the top five show dogs in the country and with the right breedings, within a few generations we could have a HUGE chihuahua....it is all just a matter of what genes appear when. Lucky's last litter had 5 pups. The biggest one in that litter will reach around 5 and a half pounds...the smallest one will probably be lucky if it hits three pounds. The vet even laughed at mom the other day when he gave us a sample flea controle product for one pup and told mom she would probably never get one for the other pup because they have to be 3 pounds or over. And these two dogs are from the exact same breedings. I have had littermates where the smallest would reach 3 or 4 and the biggest would reach 7......they were both chis!! The largest pure chi I have ever seen personally was 14 pounds at one point. Now, a lot of that was fluid...he was on a lot of meds to try to keep the fluids off...without the fluid he probably would have been about 10, but still you get the point....just because a chi is bigger does NOT mean it is not a full blooded chi.....just means the breeding that produced it was just right to bring out the bigger genes....
