Make sure everyone is leashed and well supervised. My Vinnie was traumatized by a puppy class where a well meaning large pup grabbed him in play and frightened him so bad he began squealing and the rest of the pups went into prey drive (most were large). Yes socialization is of great importance but at the expense of your bond with your dog or worse his getting injured. Beware few of these trainers really understand the little dog and how to work with them. I had an allegedly great trainer "drag" Henry up an obstacle (A-frame)until I grabbed him away from her. Just be careful and have your baby in a harness so you can safely remove (hoist if necessary)?them from danger should it come there way. Keep in mind a well meaning pup thats twice or three times your baby can hurt him or scare him into becoming reactive.
Best of luck! best, michelle, henry and vinnie keeping warm in the beautiful Catskills -----Original Message----- From: Stefanie Brannan <[email protected]> To: Chihuahuas <[email protected]> Sent: Thu, 22 Jan 2009 9:49 am Subject: [Chihuahuas] Obedience Classes Has anyone taken their Chis to an obedience class?? I am thinking about taking Gizmo and/or Cricket (when she's done with puppy shots) to a Petsmart class.? But, I am afraid to have them around all the bigger dogs and puppies.? I have seen some pretty dog-aggressive dogs in classes that I took my Aussies to.? The Chis are so small, I don't want to put them in danger.? But, I do want them to have an opportunity to socialize with people and other dogs.? Any suggestions? ? Stefanie
