Hi everyone! I took Ricky to a new vet today. The vet seems to think Ricky is healthy & happy. He said he can not see his ribs (but you can feel them), and thinks he is just a small framed chi. he told me not to give him human food. they gave me some cans of a/d prescription food for him to mix with a good quality dry dog food. I am now using Nature's Recipe. He told me that 3 weeks having him is not enough time for him to ajust to a new place & food. Gaining weight for a thin dog may take 3-6 months. He assured me this dog will not starve himself. He told me to leave dry down all the time, and offer the a/d canned to him 2 times a day mixed with a little wet dry dog food.
He did not think his teeth were bad, just have some tartar on them, and that is not the reason he is not eating. He believes that I have been changing his food too many times and not giving him a chance to eat it. Last night I did give him some backed chicken, and this morning he had some steak. of course I had to feed him by hand... and the vet told me not to do that either. I will just cause Ricky to depend on me to feed him by hand. Soooo, I guess I will stop worrying so much and see what happens in the next week or so. I do appreciate all of you who gave advice to help me with Ricky. THANK YOU!!
