They are not hard to train but may take a little more time at least for older chis. Monster is 5 and I started training him when he was 3 and he didn't like it at first. He was scared when I tried to get him to do anything but he warmed up to it especially when I found the right motivation for him. I think a puppy would be easy to train. And socializing from a young age should make him love everyone and not be mean or scared. Monster isn't socialized very well but he's a lot better then before the training. He does growl at people when they pet him but he usually won't bite unless he's caught off guard. I think he really likes the attention but he's still not completely sure that they aren't gonna do anything to harm him. But he always get excited when anyone talks to him and hes more comfortable with older children petting him than with an adult. So, I think it all depends on the individual chi and how dedicated you are to training them and how young they are when you start. Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T

The dog was so quiet I was so surprised because everyone says they bark a lot. Well I walk over to the cage and there's this little brown and tan chi and she was so pretty, but I couldn't touch her. She growled and tried to eat me up when I looked into the cage. My friend can not even take her out of her crate to feed her and walk her. Her owner has to come over to take her out and feed her. I was thinking about getting a chi, but I don't want my baby to be like that. I've read that they tend to be less friendly with strangers. If I socialize my puppy early would they be more friendly with strangers? Is this a easy to train breed? I mean as far as obedience and tricks? I read they were pretty hard to train. Emberly
