I think the originiation from the techihi is probably the most widely accepted origins theory. Even the AKC has advanced that theory as the most likely one. But, if you look at those dogs....they look more like what we today refer to as the "deer" chi than they do the "modern standard". And actually, the modern standard is not a very old one. 50 years ago, the "perfect" chi was not as cobblied and short nosed as they are today. So the question is....how did they go from that chi of yesteryear, to the chi of today? Many believe it to be a result of cross breeding, many believe it to be a result of selective breeding. Amont those supporting the cross breeding theory, you will find several different breeds considered as possibilities.....poms and paps to name a couple. Some believe that a cross breeding was absolutely neccessary to get the current long coat gene....
