It's not a general rule that large parrots don't like dogs. I have a yellow
collar mini macaw who as a baby (Happy is now 22yrs old) was raised with dogs
at the time and she is bonded to any dog. In fact she can be a royal pain in
the neck because she does nothing but call them and wants to be on the floor
playing with them all the time.LoL. I also have a green cheek conure, (Rainbow
is now 21 yrs old) who also likes the dogs. Princess my mini Eskie is very
protective of the birds and considers them part of the pack. When Happy calls
her over, she does it by dropping her sunflower seeds on the floor as an
offering and then she will hang down from the cage and lets Princess kiss her.
Rainbow lures Princess over by banging on her bell and then tries to push her
beak through the wire so Princess can lick her as well. They all seem to
understand each others calls and sounds and body language.

LOL Bigger Parrots have disdain for dogs. I don't think the Budgies will be
dive-bombing the dog! - but they will be jealous [which is unclear]. They help
me make our bed - silly things run all over the bed and tug at teh covers. I
will have to be careful. They are pretty hyper and get very vocal - hope they
don't encourage the dog to be vocal.

My little budgie has been dead a long time. For the past 8 yrs I've had a red
bellied parrot named Beau. Beau was here before Emiliano came to live with us
and he does not like him. He will dive bomb him every chance he gets, he also
mimics me and will yell at him "Emiliano, get in the den" when he dares to walk
into what he perceives to be his space

LOL - I got totally crazy over Budgies about 5 years ago - I have 2 lovely
ones. They are standard size - not Show/English. Rio is 3 1/2 - a pale blue
with a white head & Bow is 2 - a skyblue yellowface so yellow his blue is now
green except in small areas. They are a lot of fun - we have them out of the
cage all day - mostly they stay in their room on top of their cage or gym - but
they get so excited when someone comes home. Bow loves to ride around on my
shoulder - all day if I let him. Rio is always pulling my hair so he can kiss
my cheek. All this is pretty much untrained!

I really hope a small dog won't be a problem with them - I hope I can train the
dog to leave them alone. I'll be in trouble & upset if a new pet causes
problems :(

Budgies? I adore them, once had a champion talker named Bunkie, I have hours
of tape of him talking and carrying on conversations with me. He lived 6 yrs
and I miss him still.

Ears - Is there a corrct size?

Head shape - I like both but was puzzled when I saw the differences. When
someone mentioned the 'fox' head I was intrigued - had only ever heard of the
'apple'.

If nothing else the standard for Chihuahuas seems to be a healthy mix. I have
noticed that some breeders have the smaller eared dogs and they tend to be
'apple heads'. Some dogs seem to have really big ears- all are seriously cute.
Nice for us owners - we can have a choice.

It all seems moot as I will be getting a rescue - but already I can see all the
variations. Coats, ears, head, colouring.....makes me think they are more like
my Budgies LOL
