That is so great that they do all the background check, as these babies have
gone through enough and they need a forever home. My breeder has Merle's and
one of them is 18. They all look healthy and are so beautiful. I do not think
she would ever breed if it meant poor health. But I could be wrong as I tend to
be too trustworthy at times. I always think people are honest like me...but we
all know that is not true. Best of luck to your new baby.

Merle:  I've been reading more - big debate.  Good breeding & bad - the usual
suspects.
Thanks, I appreciate the advice.  I was going to check her teeth.  Most of the
rescues do address teeth & have blood work - info available to me. I'll see if
they have a complete profile.   I'm waiting to hear from the foster parent - it
is slow as I have just applied to this rescue [never thinking the Rat Terrier
Rescue would have a Chi.  LOL]

My husband is saying he would like a smaller one - I am surprised.  For me it
doesn't matter [both big & small have great looks to me] because I've only had
medium to large dogs - the larger Chi is just fine. I am looking for a
connection to the dog.

It's like adopting a child; they ask you lots of questions, do a home visit
prior to acceptance, after 3 references, you finally get to be with the dog [2
visits are allowed] & you decide.

She is a very very pretty dog! I love her markings. I didn't notice that they
gave any idea of her age. I would also ask if she needs to have her teeth
cleaned/extractions, If so, you may want them to do it first and then have her
transported once they know that she is okay. It's great that you don't have to
worry abut the rest of vetting, but I am one for having a blood profile done as
well, it will give you a good idea as to her future health needs if any.

I think. hmmm, maybe she weighs about 8-10 lbs? She is bigger then my Gigi who
is 6 lbs. I am not to much up on the merle, so others on here would be able to
tell you more.

I have put in a request for an adopted dog from a rescue.  She is a Merle short
hair.  She is at the Rat-terrier rescue and they think she is part Ratter.  She
looks like a Chi.  They don't say her size or age - I'll be talking to her
foster mom soon.  My grandmother had a Ratter - great dog.

I was just reading about the Merle.  Some of you have them.  Do you know if
deafness and blindness is there right at the beginning, if it is there, or if
it is something that comes on?  Has this ever been a concern of yours?

I've been looking around at the rescue dogs in my area and she really
interested me.  Because she is a rescue she will be neutered and that is OK by
me.

They say that Merle Chi's are not pure-bred and are all on the large size.
Here's Lilly.   She doesn't look big - but in the end that isn't a factor for
us.
