Big birds should be taken very seriously - they are smart and can do damage if you can't read their body language or you threaten them [even unintentionally]. A Cockatoo can be a wonderful pet bird but because of their intelligence and their biological needs and species needs they are needy - they need their flock/you, they need stimulation, they need rules and exercise like any pet. Most people think that if it is in a cage it doesn't need to be out of it. Imagine that you could only live in your kitchen - see how that might wear on you after a few years and your diet never changes and if you were scared you couldn't get away or have any privacy. Birds break my heart most - even more than cats & dogs. So beautiful and fragile and vulnerable.
Our Budgies frighten some because they fly so close to you - being little aerial gymnasts.
