From Jenna Stregowski, RVT, your Guide to Dogs
Rewards make up the foundation of positive reinforcement dog training.
Though there are many other training methods out there, I feel that positive
training is one of the most effective and humane. Best of all, it's fun and
simple.

Top Ways to Reward Your Dog

As you train your dog positively, there are many rewards that you can use.
Food is most often used as a reward because so many dogs are highly
food-motivated. On the other hand, what about those dogs that are NOT
food-motivated? Here are dog trainer Amy Bender's favorite reward methods.

How to Train a Dog Using Games

Using games as rewards in positive dog training is an excellent idea,
especially for dogs that are not food-motivated or overweight. Amy Bender
offers tips and advice for using games in positive reinforcement training.

Indoor Activities for You and Your Dog

One-on-one time with your dog is not only a reward, it's an integral part of
your relationship. As temperatures drop, it may be difficult for you to
spend time with your dog outside. Fortunately, there are some indoor
activities that can strengthen the bond between you and your dog, stimulate
your dog's mind and sometimes even provide some light exercise.

Breed of the Week: Cocker Spaniel

The American Cocker Spaniel is a sturdy, robust, small to medium-sized dog
with a hard-working, independent spirit. Learn more about this very popular
spaniel, the smallest of the sporting dogs.
