i believe it is very possible...I also believe that just because a dog is eating and even engaging in a little play, doesn't always mean that they aren't feeling well. I believe that they feel crampy and uncomfortable and it gets worse the older they get. Unlike we humans the poor things never get a break from being in heat unless they are spayed. Also remember that dogs are great at masking any illness especially if the are in a pack environment. Check her belly Deanna just to make sure she is not swollen and not too firm and hard and her nipples aren't leaking any fluid. I  had a friend who's unspayed females  went through false pregnancies in their old age and another who developed mastitis's  Both had emergency spaying done, and it was touch and go and scary. So just keep an eye on her to be safe. Weren't you concerned about her last week? How old is she now?

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Shuai-Li is clingy today

This is gonna sound like a stange question...I am pretty sure I have never asked this outloud before but always wondered about it. Shuai-Li has been really clingy and wanting to be cuddled...more than normal today and yesterday. She is in the bleeding/dripping phase of her heat cycle. Do you think that dogs in heat experience any of the same emotions we do as women during our periods? She just seems quieter...more needy...very calm. That's what I seem to experience each month. Any thoughts?? Am I nuts???

I have just wanted to be holding her all day...she just buries her little face under my chin and cuddles with me...a little hard to get sewing done but I have been giving her lots of opportunities for cuddle time throughout the day. She is right at me feet...touching my leg if I am not holding her. She is eating great and had play-time too so I know she isn't sick...just  a little more emotional if thats possible in dogs.
