Sweetie just went in to heat... Maybe that explains the moodyness!...

And that is why Isi isnt fixed.. She went into her first heat almost
immediately after i got her.. We used premie pampers on her.. Lol.. But we are
still iffy about breeding her.. I know of a 3lb male that we are considering
but I have at least 6 Mo to decide.. But like you said it is so permanent and I
certainly didn't want to breed her this first heat.. She needed to be a pup
first before she became a mom.

She has been sick for the last 24hrs got some severe runny diarrhea . The last
one late afternoon was almost all water. I didn't treat for it because if
she had got into something I wanted her to poop it out of her system..
Same as if it was a bacteria. She didn't eat dinner at all last night but
when she is up with me in the middle of the night (knees hurting), she ate
a couple pieces of left over kibble from dinner.. Lol.. She is still peeing
fine and other than being clingy looks well. If she isnt better tomorrow she
will go the vets.. But as long as her eyes are moist, and she is drinking and
peeing not gonna worry too much..

Shanna...great reference...thanks so much! I think Shuai-Li is way more
sensitive than my female poodles were...they just got "bitchy"...but never
became more affectionate...if anything they were always more standoffish and
moody. Thanks for this info!! Shuai-Li is wearing her little panties so we
are avoiding the little drip-lets...they are pretty cute too! This is her first
heat. I wasn't expecting it quite yet...I thought I had another month so I only
had one pair of panties done...gotta add that to my list of "to do"
now!!  Now that she has had her first heat I have to decide if/when
to spay here. I was toying with the idea of breeding her as my sister in
law really wants a Shih Tzu...but I think I will go ahead and spay her. I just
don't want to risk her in anyway and the world doesn't need any more puppies.
Shuai-Li came from a litter of 9...a huge litter for Shih Tzus...so it could
very well be she would throw that many...no way I could keep 9 LOL!!! If I
thought she might have 2-3 I might risk it. But....I think I will be scheduling
her soon. It's just so permanant and of course I won't be able to change my
mind later...

Deanna, I found this article for you:

Female dogs are as individual as female humans but there is some behavior that
is common to unspayed female dogs. The heat period of dogs rolls the whole
sexual reproductive phase of dogs into a few weeks once or twice a year.

In stage one the dog's vulva begins to swell. She may seem more affectionate to
humans and male dogs but more aggressive to other females. She may seem
distracted when doing obedience or other work. She may eat more or go off feed.
She will usually spend a lot of time licking herself and other dogs in the
household will be interested in smelling and licking her also. An experienced
stud dog will not try to mount her now but wants to spend a lot of time near
her. Males near her may fight and other females may act differently to her
depending on her rank with them. If she is submissive they may punish or attack
her. If she is the dominant dog they may avoid her. This stage is comparable to
the premenstrual period in humans. This stage lasts roughly a week.

This is gonna sound like a stange question...I am pretty sure I have never
asked this outloud before but always wondered about it. Shuai-Li has been
really clingy and wanting to be cuddled...more than normal today and yesterday.
She is in the bleeding/dripping phase of her heat cycle. Do you think that
dogs in heat experience any of the same emotions we do as women during our
periods? She just seems quieter...more needy...very calm. That's what I seem to
experience each month. Any thoughts?? Am I nuts???

I have just wanted to be holding her all day...she just buries her little
face under my chin and cuddles with me...a little hard to get sewing done
but I have been giving her lots of opportunities for cuddle time
throughout the day. She is right at me feet...touching my leg if I am not
holding her. She is eating great and had play-time too so I know she isn't
sick...just  a little more emotional if thats possible in dogs.
