My guys already have the red dingo ones but looking at the link you sent I had a really fun idea...wouldn't it be fun to get a tag with each of our dogs names on it...and make a necklace WE could wear??? Those flowers or the paw prints would be adorable made up for dog owners!!! I could see the paw prints...all in different colors...one color for each dog...put all together...wouldn't that be so adorable...or on a charm bracelet...I may have to work on that idea...too fun!!!! I am so sorry but things happen. they can by accident get out. years ago, I lived in an apt. there was an old man across the way that had a cat. all indoor cat but had no tags on her. He said she never goes out. I said you should do it in case/safety. well one day his lady that comes to clean his house, found him dead in the bedroom. she ran over to my house and wanted me to go over there and see. I was really scared. but I went. I said be careful he has a cat. make sure it does not get out. well when the fire dept and other rescue came, they left the screen door open and the cat was so scared I saw it run out the door and I never saw it again. Not that it could have been returned to him, as he was gone. but its an example. What if this man had a heart attack and lived. His cat could have been returned to him if found. I learned my lesson also with a little cocker spaniel I had that I did not put ID on thinking that she will never get out. well she did with someone opened the gate and forgot to close it when I was gone. she went out the doggie door being scared and out the gate she went. I did tell this story recently and it was for the prayers I said and the 3 night she came home. I was just lucky she came home. I tagged her that day and have learned my lesson. as soon as we got Ricky, we went to petsmart before even going home and made him a ID tag. Just in case, being new, and if he might try to run off. but he hasn't but ya never know what he might do in an emergency or getting scared. I think its also a good idea to have another relatives name and phone on it also incase... they can not get ahold of you... they can reach the other #. I plan to make another ID tag for Ricky with not only my info, but my sisters too, incase I can not be gotten ahold of because of an emergency Shanna Kavi's Christening N Communion Store Children's Christening, Communion, Formal Wear + More http://stores.ebay.com/Kavis-Christening-n-Communion-Store --- On Sat, 11/27/10, Peggy & The Girls <[email protected]> wrote: From: Peggy & The Girls <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] ID collars and Microchips To: [email protected] Date: Saturday, November 27, 2010, 9:24 PM AMEN! That's why I posted the whole thing on ID's/microchips and even gave an example of an emergency, like the CA fires. When their is an emergency, your lucky if you can grab the dog, least of all find an ID some where. And what if you are unconscious? or their is a car accident and your dog escaped from the accident? If he is found, he is just another dog in a pound! Just recently, their was a story on the news about a soldier who finally made arrangements to have his dog shipped here from Afghanistan, only for the dog to have escape from his home. Three days later some one said that they could swear that his dog was at the shelter. When he got their on the 4th day, he was told that the dog was put down that morning! He was devastated, since the dog had saved his life and his buddies more then once and now he couldn't return the favor. Had he had an ID/micro chip it would never have happened! ♥ Peggy & The Girls ♥ -----Original Message----- From: Kavi <[email protected]> To: Chihuahuas <[email protected]> Sent: Sat, Nov 27, 2010 11:30 pm Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] ID collars and Microchips Hi I think all dogs should have an ID tag at least. Do you know how many people lose their pets and do not get them back because they are not tagged? The shelter is full of them. Its a safety issue. No matter what, there is always a chance a dog can get out and be lost. Why would anyone want to take that chance? I read the lost and found alot. Many can be returned if they had just be tagged. You do not have to microchip.. just a tag. After rescuing them, and trying to find the owners for about three months, (and that was over a year and a half ago). I'm not taking a chance on someone finding chips in them now. But they never go anywhere without me anyway. So I would probably get myself chipped first. :) Pam On Sat, Nov 27, 2010 at 17:15, Valerie Mockett <[email protected]> wrote: Lola does have a micro chip from the shelter. His ID tags are on the halter that he wears when we go out. He has never tried running out the door but you never know when he might. I almost got him micro chipped but the negatives I've read have held me back. Gloria In a message dated 11/27/2010 3:31:33 A.M. How many of you have all your dogs Micro chipped, regardless how small they are? Putting an ID on Gigi was done the same day that I got her. Good thing too, because she constantly tries to squeeze out the door after me. For a while, with training, she stopped that and would listen, but every once in a while she tries again. She is so fast at it too, no matter how careful I am. I am always worried that one of these days she is going to get her head slammed in the door. She has cost me to drop groceries and the garbage all over the place a couple of times. She's like lightening to get at the door and follow me! For Princess I had to do it right away too, because if I open the door and she sees a squirrel, she's gone. But now she listens well and stays in the chair by the window when I go out. Both of them got micro chipped right away too. I am a firm believer in both. Deanna's- Madison is a perfect example as to how many dogs never find their way back home. She's lucky, many are not. I remember last year when CA had those fires for so long....the SPCA said the main reason why so many dogs were never put back with their owners is because they were not microchipped and didn't have ID's on them. So their was no way to trace the displaced owners to their pets. You never know when an emergency is going to happen and your dog should be protected at all times, especially during the night, since that is when most emergencies do happen. The other reason why dogs are not reunited with their owners, even when they are micro-chipped is because the owners don't get on their computers and update the chip with new addressess and phone numbers. Also, it is very important to make sure that the chip is registered with the two UNIVERSAL SITES, and not just with the company that manufactures the chip. Here are the links for that, just in case some of you are not aware of that. http://www.petmicrochiplookup.org/Default.aspx http://www.checkthechip.com/HelpPage.aspx I just had two more ID's made at Petsmart. I love their machine! They can put 4 lines of info on each side of their ID's including the tiny ones for our little chi's! And they are only $7.50 each. Best deal that I found around! Now I have an ID on all of their collars, and don't have to go crazy, putting the ID's on and off every time I want to change their collars. When I walk the girls, I use a harness, but those collars with their ID will stay on them 24/7! ♥ Peggy & The Girls ♥
