Some studies say this, some studies say that, some vets say this, some vets
say that - it is confusing and you and you alone should make the decision
for your babies. I weighed the information and made up my mind and had
Emiliano neutered at 6 mos of age.

Deanna so they get more cancer if they are fixed than if you leave them
alone and just leave nature alone.... I am so confused. This is not what I
thought was true, I better do some more research and think about this again.
I hate making decisions that can mean the life of my baby, I already lost
one baby at 2 years old and I do not ever want to go through that again. I
only want the best for my girls in every way possible. So I will look in to
it. I kind of feel ignorant about everything now. It was like when I
joined La Leche - a breastfeeding support group when my children were young. I
do not know what I would of done without these wonderful women who guided me
through all the pros and cons - mostly pros. But they made so much sense
to me and that is how I feel about this group is we all have something
special that we know about and can share to help make it a safer and healthier
world for our babies that we all love so dearly.
I live alone as most of you know and have some health issues so my little
girls are my whole world.

I will read some tomorrow when I have more time. I have already read tons
of articles on this. Each person has to do what they think is best. If you
are not breeding then it is on that individual to make sure their dogs
don't get preggers. Too many accidents already. I KNOW the main concerns are
not brain damage. I think Dr. Symes is a good doctor but he is not the ONLY
vet out there. There are pros and cons of everything you do, animals and
humans. You just have to pick the lesser of 2 evils for yourself.

You really should read those articles I listed...the main concerns over
spay and neuter are not brain damage...there is way more to it...really
Dasha...it is worth reading them. Dr Symes doesn't even bring up brain
damage...far MORE issues than that!!! Cancer and lots of other
problems...don't just
listen to me...really read what he has to say...it is worth your time

I have read a lot Deanna and I do believe that the brain damage is a thing
that happens less rather than more. As far as the spaying goes I was not
saying that every dog should be spayed but that there is not a medical
reason why dogs under 6 pounds can't be. The world is a big big place. People
tend to only see a small corner.

Dasha...before you just say that I would really encourage you to do some
reading about the new info coming out!!! You can start with
_www.dogtorj.com...there_ (http://www.dogtorj.com...there/) is TONS of info
out
there...but you have to look. There are MANY reasons to possibly opt for not
spaying.
There are things to learn in the area.

Personally I think the brain damage is one of those rare things that can
happen. Just like humans dogs will react differently. There is no reason a
dog under 6 pounds can't be spayed.

Okay everyone I feel so stupid but I have never ever heard of small dogs
getting brain damage from having anesthesia or that you should not spay a
dog under 6 lbs. I have heard that if you don't spay them they can get
uterine cancer and infections and all kinds of problems. I have had both my
chi's spayed and neutered and it was all great. But now I have Maggie who I
will have to decide on. So where do I find the facts on the brain damage
information and the pros and cons.I have trusted and loved my Vet for the last
30 years but maybe I am blindsided.
Confused and worried chi mommy - Nancy
