Peggy, perfect because Abbey always comes when I call her - thank you and this
sounds like something that she will respond to - Abbey is  a very sweet and
sensitive girl and I think this is the perfect answer. I just could not imagine
spraying water in her face and what she would think - it would break my heart
:) Thank you so much for answering me, I am going to call and cancel Cesar and
Victoria as I have Peggy!!!!!!

Merry Christmas to all!

Nancy,

My Princess was an habitual barker, Eskies are known for that..they will bark
at a howling wind. This is how I got it under control. I would say, "Princess,
Come!" when she would come to me, I would praise her (because she obeyed the
come command) Then I would gently put my hand around her muzzle and say  "your
a good girl, now be Quiet" and repeated the word 'Quiet' as I released my hand
from her muzzle. At first she would walk back over to the window and start to
bark again, so again I would repeat the scenario. Now when ever she barks, all
I have to say is "Come"  then "Good Girl, Quiet" and she always stops and sits
wagging her tail. Some times I have to refrain from laughing because she will
sit their whimpering, as if to say.."but mom, I heard something!"

It will take a few days for Abbey to get the hang of it, but for Princess I
only had to hold her muzzle two times and she got it. You may have to do that a
couple of more times with Abbey. But don't pick her up, or she may
understand being held as a reward for barking.

You Rock Deanna, quick question Abbey is all of a sudden starting to bark at
people and things which is causing the baby to follow her. She was never a
barker before but ever since she got chased  by that big dog when she was in
her yard going to the bathroom I think she does it because she is trying to
tell everyone to leave her alone. How do I get her to stop. Someone suggested
spraying water in her face, but that does not seem right. Any ideas from anyone
would be greatly appreciated. Nan

Merry Christmas to all!

Hi Peggy...I have a BIG lap LOL!!!! But seriously they seem to rotate time with
me naturally. They all follow me wherever I go...wherever I go I have 5 tails
in pursuit...in the kitchen they all watch me from their kitchen bed just at
the end of the island...when in the sewing room working they are all on my
feet...they have learned to keep their paws out from under the foot peddle and
they all know to pick up scraps for Mama. I rotate walks throughout the
day...sometimes one on one and sometimes 3 or 2 at a time. They all sleep in a
side car by the side of my bed...level with the mattress on nights my hubby is
home...when he is not they are all piled in with me and they all have their
favorite spots to be. TV time we take over the couch...some on me...some next
to me etc. I spend about 30 minutes with each one each day one on one for
training...i feed them all lined up together for dinner each having their own
placemat and bowl. Every breakfast I
feed them as a pack by hand as they sit and wait their turns. They each have
their place in the car when we go anywhere and their own kennels when we travel
in the trailer. My guys don't swabble because I just don't let it happen. If
they start to get poopie with another, they get the "look" and they know to
knock it off. ALL of my little pack genuinely LOVE one another...they enjoy
playing with each other and they actually do share. The older ones bring out
toys for the babies. They are a very cohesive group and I am the leader. No one
outranks me and if they did I think that is where problems might lie. To make
it work I will tell you it takes a lot of time. My day is structured around
them...having feeding, playing, training, walking, napping and other scheduled
activities. My daughter just finished soccer...we all went...she takes
Piano...we all go to lessons. WE homeschool and all the dogs are part of
that school day. They know to be quiet when
it is appropriate and look very forward to our PE time as we all get out ! and
run around for a nice break and fresh air. On bathing days they all sit and
watch one getting groomed and waiting for their turns...except Shuai-Li...she
HATES grooming time so she heads for the deck and I have to go find her!! I
finally found a groomer for her that I love that comes to my house...I groom
everyone else and it is my favorite time...I LOVE to groom my poodle
especially!!

I think a schedule...a plan...and consistant training is the key.  I have never
had doubts about adding in someone...we do what it takes to make them fit in
and train them to go with our agenda. I think they are happier knowing
boundaries and knowing whats coming. I do not put our big Caleb in our mix...he
and Max have their own yard...their own indoor time with my son and hubby and
their own sleep kennels each night in our downstairs great room. It isn't that
they are mean...they are just big and rough and have different needs than my
littles. Caleb does real well with the littles by himself so he does get a few
hours everyday interacting with them...but throw Max into the mix and things
get too wild. Max is my son's dog and is just a bouncey big girl. The way our
house and property is we really have 2 sides and 2 levels so it works really
well and no one is left out.

I really enjoy having my own dog park!!! But...i was the same idiot that wanted
10 kids!!! I only had 5 but I loved every minute of it...maybe that "pack"
mentality just carried over into the dogs. I was so use to just doing
everything in "group" fashion. We did have a lot of one on one time but we
seemed to function really well in "formation". My kids didn't fight. They
didn't talk back...and for the most part were pretty obedient. My dogs are the
same way LOL!!!

So really I just think it is what you want your life to look like! I had many
friends that didn't want the one child they had...they wanted to travel...they
needed their own time. The enjoyed quiet fancy restaraunts, nice clothes and
fretted over things like baby spit LOL. That just wasn't me. It still isn't
me...although I can tell you I sure am enjoying quiet restaraunts and nice
quiet hours with a good book in my old age!!!

I want to know how do you pet them all at the same time?  Princess is still so
jealous of Gigi. I cannot just pet or hold Gigi on my lap without her coming
over and demanding attention to. I need 3 hands, one for each dog and a third
for the computer! Lol!

Seriously, don't any of you have a jealous problem with multiple dogs? I had 4
dogs years ago and don't remember ever having this issue.

Okay, here's my dilemma.  I have three mini dachshunds and one chihuahua.  I
have been offered for "free" another female chihuahua that is six weeks old.  I
haven't told DH (dear husband) yet.  I know he will say do whatever you want
but is 5 inside dogs too much?  Am I crazy to want her?  Help!
