Hello. Here is Halo's stand on grains
http://www.halopets.com/pet-education/pet-articles/halo-philosophy-on-grains.html

If you go to the Halo website, they have coupons, if you sign up on the
website, they'll periodically send you coupons

Keep an eye on their "Shortdated" page
http://shop.halopets.com/Limited-time-specials
where they sell items that are closer to the expiration date (but are NOT
expired)

I would personally pick Halo over Before Grain or Wellness Core because Before
Grain & Wellness Core contain canola oil, which is generally genetically
modified. I've talked to pet food reps who acknowledge that canola oil is a
cheap oil. I myself avoid eating or cooking with canola oil, so I also won't
feed it to my dog.

I spoke to a Merrick rep last fall. They said they'd just changed all their
dry foods from Canola Oil to Olive Oil, but I don't think they have a
grain-free flavor. Only their offshoot Before Grain is, of course, grain-free.

If you look at Halo's ingredient label carefully, it does NOT contain canola
oil, hence the slightly higher cost. You get what you pay for.

Having said that, my friend feeds her 3 dogs Halo with success. My dog would
eat Halo, but wasn't excited about it. So I just switched him to a grain-free
brand called Lotus duck (no canola oil). It is manufactured by a small pet
store chain in the Southern California area called Centinela (don't know where
you're located)

Their ingredients are sourced from Canada.
