I hear you.. If I didn't have a boyfriend, I would have at least 3 more dogs.. & I think they would be easier to care for them then him..LOL

I know what you mean.   We will have dogs as long as we can
care for them.   Being in our 70s I've made sure that our children
are willing to take them  if anything happens to us.   You just
never know.   Also, that's another reason for adopting older pups...
They are so special...

Hi Beth,    As a child I didn't grow up with a dog in the house but
a lot of my friends had them and I loved them all.   it was thought
that I was allergic to dog dander.   Either I wasn't or I out grew it because
for the last 50 years we have had dogs constantly...  from muts to
Old English Sheep Dog , pit mix and chow and schnauzer.  All much loved.
We lost our last little rescue mutt last year just before Christmas 1009.  She was 17 and had been with us 15 years...  even moved to AZ with us from NC.   A very very special little one.    Now we have rescued little Benji girl and she is our first chi....   and our smallest dog.   I'm thinking that one will not be enough.   A lot of the time over the years we had more than one dog and it always worked great.  Our Chow though the Pit Terrier was her Mama.   Through the years we had one cat that trained all the pups that she was the greatest and they better treat her with respect.  They were all great with Miss Twinkle Toes <G>

This was a lovely tribute to your cousin Kathy....    mj and Benji girl

I was just curious about the group, How many of you have had dogs through out your life, or are just newbies?

I have had dogs since I was 5.Or that is my 1st memory of having one.
Her name was Julie, and she was a Beagle.. She was so fat.. She would rome the neighborhood dumping trash cans.. We lived in a rual area, horse country. She was a good dog, and lived about 10 years.. Everybody knew her.. LOL
My really 1st dog of my own was when I was 10, I had moved to Washington state to live with my cousin, she was much older then I.
She bred and showed Collies. She gave me a pup to put through Obedience and show. I learned so much, and thats really where it all started from.
I only lived with her for 2 years, and she let me take my Sancho home to California. I never stayed in contacted with her, after I left. She was very kind to me in the begining, but towards the end of my stay she was very mean. Never knew why, but my mom said that her mother, my mothers oldest sister was the same.
I never got to tell her thank you for teaching me all she did and giving me Sancho.
I learned she passed away yesterday of something called pix ? not even sure I got that spelled right.
I have tried to contact her daughter, my second cousin through facebook, but no luck..
So this is for you cousin Kathy.. Thank you for all the love you showed me, and teaching me the world of dogs..
Beth
