My Desi does that very same thing.he searches for the squeaker and then finds a way to bite through the fabric to get the squeaker and then he chews it do death (doesn't swallow it though!)
I have changed my buying habits to get some toys meant for bigger dogs. They are sewn so much better to hold up to the extra teeth and jaw power of bigger dogs. I am amazed how Desi can pick up the big toys and drag them around the house. He plays with all of his toys but never rips them up - until yesterday. I got him the cutest teddy bear with long arms and legs, it had a squeaker in it and Emiliano tore him up to get the squeaker out. The poor bear looks as if he had open heart surgery!!.
