I am finding all of this very interesting because I have always wondered why
their are so many more males then females in the shelters and with rescues.
I also wonder if Chi's breed more males then females?

Also Lynn, we do have some one on here that does rescue in OH, she has many
chi's of her own, maybe she could help you. I will say that it can take a
person a month or longer to find that perfect pet when you start searching
through shelters and rescues. Since you are not in a hurry and need more
time to convince your hubby, this may be the perfect road to take. Her name
is Carol Smet, and maybe she could help you.

I am going to check my resources too and hey, you never know....that sweetie
may just be around the corner for you.

Deanna...Thanks so much for writing this about your experience with females
and males. Makes me feel much less confused about my choice going in. I
agree; what mom doesn't want to dress a female in those adorable fashions.
Again, I always used to assume the breeders were telling me the truth and
now realize cannot always rely on that, because as you mentioned they might
push males just to get them sold. One woman I had contacted asked me why
everyone wanted a girl, that males are much more affectionate, needy and
will always want to be right with you, whereas girl Chis are much more aloof
confident and headstrong. So there you have it, BTW, she did have two male
puppies she was pressing me to take, one or the other. But maybe those really
are her feelings about the subject. She's been very nice in our
communications, but was definitely steering me towards what she was telling
me were positive male traits over females. I can tell by reading on this
group that males make perfectly wonderful pets, as well, but as I said, had
my heart set on a girl, and it's just how I feel.

Lynn,
Having the chis in my life that I have had I have to say that every female I
have ever had has been so sweet, very easy to train and their first desire
is to be where I am. Now my males? Very sweet but very hard to housebreak..
mouse was neutered way before 6 months and he has been the only dog in my
life I can not house train...we have a variety of belly bands...in all
fashion colors lol!! If you want a female get one...I personally believe it
is how you raise them. It is so much fun to dress up a little girl too!!
Breeders will push their males because they are hard to place...simple as
that! Most people want females...if a breeder is telling you the males are
better I would look for another breeder! There is nothing more adorable and
devoted than a spoiled little girl...and none of my females have been
headstrong or stubborn...actually just the opposite. I have seen way more
territorial out of control male chis than females. Now I will say tha t a
non spayed in tact female will have mood changes during her cycle...but
every single one of mine have gotten more clingie and mopie...not aggressive
or stand offish. Again...just my 2 cents!!
