Yes, unexpected vet expenses can be high. I tease that I have a 
$1,000 grandbaby poodle. Last year, I had to help my daughter pay the 
vet bill for the removal of one of Sammi's toes due to a cancereous 
growth and follow up treatment. Worth every penny!
