Hi Everyone! Its been a while since I posted but the first place I wanted to come to ask a question. Since there are many chi owners here I thought this would be the best place to get advice. We just got a 2nd chi last nite. Female puppy that is 7 weeks old. YES I know she is to young to be away from mom, but the mother passed away when she was 3 weeks old and she has been bottle raised. If not for that situation I never would of considered such a young chihuahua! So for my question... She has a inguinal hernia on one side. Her former owner took her to the vet last week and had her first set of shots/worming and also had the hernia looked at. Her vet stated that he wasnt to concerned with it and that as she grows it should clear up on its own. She will be going to our vet next week where Id like to get a 2nd opinion to be on the safe side. Ive tried to read up on this type of hernia as I had never seen it before. Is this something common in chihuahua's and is there a good chance it wouldnt need surgery to repair? Or is this type of hernia only fixed via surgery? Im not worried about cost to repair it, I only worry about how small she is and her being able to handle a surgery at this point! Is it something that could wait until she is ready for spaying? She eats and drinks well and has very good stools nothing runny or out of the norm. She is super hyper and playful. A really healthy little girl. Beings she has this hernia should I try to keep her from playing so rough? Or will her normal every day play be ok on her. Im a big worry wart but I really want to insure she is going to be ok. We have her on Blue Buffalo small breed puppy food mixed with a bit of Wet Blue Buffalo food. thanks everyone for any advice
