YAY for the Chi's!!
Rosie the Rocket Dog
AKC's First UDX Chihuahua!
On January 29, 2011 Linda's Rosita Bonita UDX VER RA, "Rosie", (and owner
Linda Dillard) made history, becoming the first Chihuahua to earn a UDX!
Now for those who are unfamiliar with obedience, earning a UDX is quite a
challenge. The title requires the dog and handler team receive a qualifying
score (170 out of 200) in both the Utility B and Open B class on the same day,
at 10 different trials. The Utility class, at times referred to as "futility"
by some exhibitors, is a class which involves 6 exercises: a signal exercise in
which the dog responds to the hand signals only (no voice commands), scent
discrimination, a directed retrieve, the moving stand and examination and
directed jumping. The Open class includes 5 exercises plus the "sits and
downs": heeling off leash and a healing in a figure 8 pattern, drop on recall,
retrieving both on the flat and over a jump, jumping over a broad jump and the
long sit (3 minutes) and down (5 minutes), during which the dog must remain in
position while the handler goes out of sight. (For more details on these
exercises, go to http://www.akc.org/events/obedience/getting_started.cfm )
