I kind of wonder why they say that they make good pets in Texas? I think (just my opinion) that if you thoroughly socialize your puppy, and you provide the love that they are so deserving of, then you have a dog who is loyal to their owner and afraid only of strangers that are perceived to be an enemy!
My two will bark at strangers when they come to the house.as soon as I tell them that this person is OK, then if the person just touches them lightly or pets them, then they are fine and run off. I kind of like that mine are like that. They have been raised with love, they both have been socialized with both dogs and humans (adults and children) and are very happy, loving, faithful. Dolly loves to lay on the patio sunbathing and Desi just loves to go outside and investigate all the plants in case one of them moved during the night! LOL They will play with the toys and occasionally they will get the zoomies and be chasing each other around the house or around the yard. I really can't walk them very often especially since my torn knee meniscus has been added to my already bad spinal problems. I think that they took a description of a Chihuahua and then mangled it and made is sound if they are all bad. I will say, that as a child we had a puppy who was part Chihuahua and part Fox Terrier. Oh, my! He was the meanest dog around. One time someone gave him a toy for Christmas and it was put under the tree, and he would sit by the tree and growl at us and nobody could get near to get the toy and put it away some place. He had bitten everyone in the house and one time or another. He was thrown into a family with five children.and I think that might have been a bit much for him, and I think that my Mom or any of us kids knew that the first time that he acted up that he needed to be turned on his back while telling him no! So, yes.it is true sometimes that Chihuahuas can be mean and the other things, but the key word is proper socialization.it has to be done! This is the kind of advertising that gives all Chi's a bad name. And it is from a Rescue Site!! My Gigi has none of those qualities!! They don't say one thing that is nice about the breed, how do they ever expect to adopt them out!!! Chihuahua Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. Chihuahuas are high strung, yappy, tiny dogs. Chihuahuas are loyal to the point of possessiveness and obsession with their masters. Chihuahuas are bold, high energy dogs that make wonderful companions for their owners but are suspicious of strangers. Chihuahuas are not well suited to families with children due to the dogs' defensiveness and tendency to snap when provoked. Chihuahuas need to be thoroughly socialized. Despite their small size, Chihuahuas are often aggressive with other dogs. Chihuahuas do fine living in an apartment but need plenty of daily exercise. Rescue Me! - HeIpingAnimaIs in Need.
