Thank you Lorena, I will ask my vet about this?  Is it expensive? The
medication they gave me for Vida was 65.00. & then the medication they gave me
for Smidge was 39.00? It was the same name of medication, but looked different.
Vida's was pink. almost reminded me of amoxicillin.Meds for Smidge was yellow
and much smaller dose for her.? her weight is about the same as Vida's
I am curious as to what it is you were given?
Beth

There is a vaccine that they shoot up there nose for the kennel cough. I think
it has to be given every 6 months. Its called Bordetella (not sure if that's
spelled right). When I started taking Monster to obedience classes, the trainer
recommended I give it to him if he was gonna be around other dogs a lot. So,
he's been getting it ever since because he's always around other dogs at the
dog park, petsmart, ect. I just wanted to let you know because the vets never
say anything about it. You might wanna ask your vet and when your baby is over
it maybe consider giving it to her regularly, especially if your gonna be
rescuing dogs.

Hi Peggy,
Thanks so much.. I went and laid down in my car on my lunch, and it did help
some. Still running to the bathroom every so often!! EEEK not fun..
Well the rescue contact that helped pull Vida called me and said they were
working on pulling the little chi? So now I don't know whats happen with her,
cause the shelter told me they were going to pull her out of the adoption and
keep her for one of there adoptiond day events? They assured me when I called
she would not be put down.
I told my contact if they needed me to pick her up I could, but didn't want to
bring her to my house as I don't have any place to seperate them.
To my knowledge there isnt a shot for the kennel cough, just oral medication.
Both Smidge and Vida on it, it is called Doxycycline, and expensive.
If you adopt through the shelter they do give the shots and are spay/nut before
going home.
Vida was not due to when she was evaluated after being pick up, she was fearful
and tried to bite, also they didn't give the shots. When the rescue pulls them,
they leave it up to the rescues to do the shots/spay.  With what I put in to
her vet cost, $264.00 to date, it would have been cheaper to pay the adoption
fee.. But then I would have had the extra cost of the kennel cough vet bill..
My ex has said he would help me with what I have had to spend on her.  I will
wait too see if she is going to be a match with him 1st.  If not she will have
her forever home with us.. I will be able to see her, and keep up on her too..

Beth, I sure hope you feel better soon. I think it is wonderful of you to keep
checking on the other shelter Chi to make sure that she is rescued. I was also
thinking that since they spay and give the rabies shot before you pick them up,
couldn't you also pay them for a KC shot?  I don't know much about the KC shot
and how good it is, or if it is okay to give it with the rabies shot at the
same time, but I would think that if the KC shot can prevent KC and prevent it
from spreading, it may be cheaper then giving meds and having to nurse them
back to health.  I guess you could Google for info on the shot. I was lucky
when I got my two, they did not have KC, and it is not that prevalent here as
it is in the CA shelters.

Also I know that some rescue people quarantine a new dog for two weeks before
introducing them into their pack. I guess you would have to have a set up for
that. Just an idea. But if they get the KC shot and that works before you bring
them home, then it wouldn't be necessary to quarantine them.

I would imagine that you have mix feelings about giving Vida to your ex. I bet
you and your pack will miss her, but am sure you can all visit too. Was Vida
already spayed when you got her?  I don't remember if you mentioned that or
not. Yes, it can be expensive to rescue, but then you know that you will get
that money back when you adopt them out, so it is like you are just
rotating the funds for the next dog.

Hope you all get better real soon.

Thank you everyone.. At work today, but still feeling crummy. Smidge got some
meds for her cough. She is doing better but still not 100%
I spoke with my ex, and he wants to see if little Vida would be happy with him.
So I have decided to let her go. I told him if she doesn't work out, or doesn't
bond with him, she always can come back to me.  I was going to rescue another
one that is in the shelter, infact today is the day I am supose to go get her,
but I am pulling my name from the list. I was 1st on the list to get her. This
was not through the rescue group, but going through the shelter, and paying the
adoption fee's along with the spay fee's.  I don't want to bring another one
home and have it catch the kennel cough. There are several people on the list
that want her, so she will get out today for sure.  I will wait and see how
Vida does before I do another rescue, as I am broke now from her rescue.

Sorry to hear that you and Smidgen are under the weather.   That's a shame.
Hope you get to go home and rest.   I'll be thinking about you both.

Glad to hear that little Vida is doing so well...  it's her turn to take care
of you, I guess.
