I live in Central Texas and I took a short trip to South Texas, known as
the Valley, to attend the state conference of the Pan American Round Tables.
I am serving the last few months of my 2 year term as Director of the
Austin Table. South Texas is very tropical and has an abundance of beautiful
plants, flowers, and fruits. Because of the warm weather, they grow and
bloom all year. The area also borders Mexico and going to the Valley was
always a wonderful opportunity to visit Mexico but not now, because of the
violence and battles between Federal police and the drug cartels. It was sad
not to be able to visit the shops and eat the great food. However, I did
get to visit a few shops that have relocated to the Texas side of the little
city of Progresso and I also got to see so many trees loaded with fruit,
mostly oranges and grapefruits, and so many beautiful flowers. One of the
most beautiful was a bouganvillea, the size of a tree, and in full bloom.
I just had to share the photo I took.

Gloria,
