I think you and are much alike in our respect for and love of animals, especially dogs and birds.  I loved reading your stories about your birds.  I am going to look for Bunkie's tapes, I have hours of him talking and he and I holding conversations.

Gloria, I am with Linda...I would live in a cabin by the lake all  year long if I had one!  What a beautiful picture! Do you get snow there in the winter, or is it warm for the majority of the year?  Would putting a t-shirt on Emiliano help with the burrs?
 
I can fully understand you missing your Parakeet, he is beautiful by the way. I use to breed many of the smaller birds, and earned my Avian Specialist degree as well.  The English Budgies and the Australian Parakeet were the most fun to breed and my favorite. My first born English Budgie's name was Blanco, even though he was a blue and white. My goodness, what a vocabulary he had!!  He put the large Parrots to shame with his vocabulary.  He would call every bird that I had by their names every morning, and then add 'Blanco loves you' at the end. I did teach him "I love you" and I would often say "mommy loves you Blanco' and he would always give a kiss sound back. Some how he knew what the word love meant, because he put it together and would told the other birds that he loved them. He would tell my male maltese to 'shut up' whenever Fluffy (RIP) would bark, He would say 'Close the door' whenever my son would leave, too funny!, and said so many other t hings too. I still do miss him. After I loss him, I just couldn't bring myself to breed birds anymore. Most of my birds did live a full and very long life. The oldest was a yellow keet 'Tweety' who lived for 15 yrs!
 
This past month Happy, my Yellow-Collar Mini Macaw just celabrated her 22nd birthday, and Rainbow, my Green-Cheek Conure, celebrated her 21st birthday, both were hand fed babies when I got them. Yes, I agree birds are very intelligent animals. Right now I am trying to figure out a way to help Happy get through anxiety when ever I leave. This is a new behavior of hers, she screams unmercifully when ever I go out the door!  She really starts in with a low constant sound as soon as she knows I am changing my clothes, because she knows that means I am going out. I know for a fact that she picked up on it from the dogs, because she sees Princess getting anxious, because Princess knows that changing my clothes means I am going out and she wants to come.  Happy does not know that she is a bird, she understands and acts and mimics the dogs a lot.  When ever she sees me playing with the dog, she will get down low on the perch and start bobbing her body up and down and makes a particular sound, which leads into calling the dogs and then  calling 'ma' and then the screams of demand, because she wants to come down and join in on the fun.  What a pack I have, lol!!
 
Your Beau, sounds like a real barrel of laughs. He too is a real smart one!  Birds never forget in my book. I have seen that many times through the years with many birds. When they feel a bond with another bird or animal or human, even if they haven't seen them for years and then suddenly they have that to see them again, they get ecstatic just like people and dogs do. And birds mourn too, some birds have been known to will themselves to death over a loss, and others have been known to blame a human for the death of a mate (bird). I had my own personal experiences with all of those and have heard of it from other bird owners as well.  Birds are very emotional creatures  and a marvel of intelligence.

Linda, my son is the only one who likes to go to the lake house or cabin.  He loves the water and doesn;t mind the heat.  I can't stand being in the heat but I do love to see the sunset in front of our cabin.  Because of his long coat, Emiliano picks up those tiny burrs (don't know what they're called) and its awful having to comb them out, so I don't let him run around outside.  So, he and I stay mostly indoors.
