You know what, Peggy, now that you mention them and post that spectacular picture of them in their nesting area, wow, thanks, I do remember Kelly, on Regis and Kelly Live, talking about those hawks on that high rise setting in NYC and how everyone was so excited about them, BUT, they have to eat too, and people never gave pause to the fact it could very well be their very own small dogs or cats on their balconies that might be fortifying and keeping those large birds and their fledglings alive. Yep, you're so right, vigilance for our little ones. Never let your guard down. It never would have occurred to me either. Lynn In a message dated 5/3/2011 2:31:20 P.M. I had forgotten about that pair of Hawks that settled on the 5th floor ledge of a high rise over looking Central Park in the 1990s. They are still there and raising young every season. They call them Palemale and Lola. The city people welcomed them to stay as the Hawks have helped control the rodent and pigeon population. I guess their young are still around and making families of their own. I also remember the story of a couple of dogs missing off of their balconies. They found out that migratory Falcons were resting on the bridge across the way from those high rise apartments and unknown to anyone at the time, dogs and cats became food targets for them. Your right Lynn, we have to be vigilant no matter where we live. If I lived in the city and up 20 floors, it would never occur to me that a migratory or an unusual resident Hawk could be around.
