Playpens work really well for puppies and older dogs too.

The only thing is you have to lift them in and out.  That is why I had to give 
mine up when my back started giving me trouble.  Now Taylor sleeps in a 
portable bed.  He is so used to it don't see any need to change anything.

       I bought the main play yard from the baby section of Walmart. I felt 
really bad buying a baby item for a puppy, but the dog yards were almost $30 
more and without bottoms. This one was $45.
