I am sorry to Mieke and to the group; I meant to send this to my hubby.
He and I love learning about different parts of our great country (USA) and
equally so, across our wonderfully expansive world. We love reading and
learning about cultural differences, food preferences and preparation,
lifestyles, geographically speaking, the beauty of, etc., of countries other
than our own, but one thing that struck me fairly recently is how much I also
love the samenesses (I know, not a word, but seemed apt here.) And one
thing that seems to transcend across and apply to everyone everywhere in the
world is our love affair with dogs. And that is a great thing!!!

I recently saw a program on tv about a woman soldier who fell deeply in
love with a cat she named Bert while serving in our military in Afghanistan
or Iraq, one of those countries. She did not see how she could see how she
could possibly leave Bert behind when it was time for her to come home. He
had given so much love and emotional support to her while she was there,
she felt she could not let him down, not knowing what would happen to him
when she was gone. The story went that she could not plead to her superiors to
help her be able to bring Bert home, so she went above them -- SHE
CONTACTED HER MOM., lol!!!

Turns out her mother had just seen a program, Operation Baghdad Pups, that
helps soldiers bring home the dogs they cannot bear to leave behind, the
puppies and dogs they have befriended in Afghanistan and Irag. Dogs that
will and sometimes have given their lives for our soldiers, so deep is their
love for each other. Operation Baghdad Pup operates on the premise of "No
buddy gets left behind." Her mother contacted this wonderful organization,
thinking fully it would be a dead end for Kelly's cat,not being a dog, but
within an hour they had a response back and by the time Kelly returned home
to America, she walked in to find Bert, freshly shampooed of desert dust
and dirt, lazily relaxing on her mother's bed and living the good life,
forever.

It is funny. When here people speak about America then all you hear is
that they have very high buildings (LOL) as you can see on your pic; (LOL)
Here in Europe we have a completly wrong view of you americans that is due to
all your movies. I always thought you where so open about sex and
nakedness (sorry if TMI) but in real I learned you guys are very conservatif
people. Here in Europe we are way more open about everything(LOL) It is
facinating to learn that.. We even talk about everything
