I got Dolly when she was 8 weeks old; she was taken from her mother at least
a week earlier.

I got Desi when he was 8 weeks old; he had been weaned from his mother at 6
weeks and the breeder kept the Moms away from the puppies after that so that
they would not want to nurse again. But, the breeder kept them until they
were 8 weeks old.probably for the bonding with their littermates and making
sure that everything else looked OK (except for the free-feeding fat on
him.)

Desi was very healthy, and had an unhealthy store of fat under his beautiful
dark brown coat. I really don't know if he has been sick before.the only
non-vaccine visits to the vet he had was when I accidentally stepped on him
at 9 weeks; and he had a little eye infection this past April and he had the
rash on his butt that was two weeks after that.

Dolly had an umbilical repair surgery at 7 weeks, which I believe hurt her
respiratory system. She had a respiratory infection at 8 weeks and a whole
slew of them afterwards. Right now she is on medication for another
respiratory infection.this time it is confined more to her head but I can
still hear her straining to breathe in the nighttime. Her hernia repair has
broken open and the vet is watching it. He says that it is not painful and
he doesn't feel any of her insides pushing out. She will keep that hernia,
unless she has to have surgery for something else and then he would fix it.
If the hernia gets bigger and is painful or there is too much space for
important things to push out, then she would have to have surgery just for
the hernia.

You must wait until she is 8 weeks old!! I would leave her with mama until
she was 10 weeks old.

You can still go visit her, bond with her, but please leave her with mama
longer. Sugar needs mama's milk, comfort and she needs to interact with her
brothers/sisters. This will all help her to be a stronger and healthy
puppy when she comes to your home.
