I personally don't like kennels for Chihuahuas.  They tend to get stressed out
more than the larger dogs..perhaps because of the larger dogs lol.  I won't
board them.  We have a house sitter, she works for our Vet, come in and stay
with them 24/7.  And truthfully, the cost is comparable and you know they are
safe and secure at all times.  Then I am able to go and enjoy myself and they
are too.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Kennel or Home Visits?

Hello,
We are going out of the country for a week and are trying to decide what would
be best for our 2 Chi boys, Scout and Rico.  They are 4 and 2 years old and do
not have any special needs other than wanting your full undivided attention
24/7.  After doing research we went to visit the best rated kennel in the area
yesterday only to find they are already full.  We are on their "wait list" to
get in for that week.  The staff member assured me that they have lots of
cancellations and we have a good chance of getting in. It appeared to be a
clean, well run kennel.  they would have an inside/outside run and be allowed
to go into a grassy area to potty three times a day.  It does still have the
feel of the "dog pound" with the cement runs and lots of barking dogs.

The other option would be to have a pet sitter come in and walk/feed/interact
with them 4 times a day at home. We used this woman before for a weekend and it
went ok but we did find our old lady dog had peed in the house.  Our 2 boys are
more reliable inside although I do have to watch Scout for marking.  Any
thoughts?

We are usually fortunate that my parents babysit the boys but they cannot do it
this time.

Thanks,
Sue
