Hi Judy,

I know you are new to the group, so I will tell this story again. For all
those that have been here for a while, you can skip reading if you want.

I had Dolly for 15 months before I got Desi. It didn't appear to be a good
scene when I got him because I believed that she hated him, and I had some
misplaced guilt that I hurt her - or made her sad - that we got Desi. I
would put Desi in his area for two hours every afternoon (he was so hyper
that I had to for my sanity!) and I would sit in the living room and hold
Dolly and talk to her like it was in the past. Over time, I saw that they
were getting along better together and I was very happy about that. I got
to the point that I knew Dolly was OK with her pesky brother.

Here is where the problems started. I would take Dolly & Desi for a walk
and Dolly was stopping every house or so and squatting to pee.but sometimes
only a few little drops would come out. She would do this the entire walk.
At home, I would sometimes see this also. I had her to the vet for blood
tests, urine tests, you name it she had it - TWICE!

One day I went to the vet's office to get more of the Interceptor and I
asked how her tests came out. They put me in one of the exam rooms and my
vet came in and told me that nothing came back bad. He said it could be
stress related. I told him that I didn't know what it could be, that she
and Desi were getting along fine and that I was doing my best to be fair to
each of them. THAT is what the vet said was wrong. One dog has to be the
alpha. In my case it was Dolly - not only was she the first dog in the
house, but she was also female which is another reason one dog may be an
alpha. From that moment, I had one instruction from the vet:

Feed her first,

Pet her first,

Put her leash on her first,

Put her in the car first,

EVERYTHING Dolly first.

It took a month or so for her to get her confidence back, but I have to do
everything Dolly first.

So when you got the new dog, Bart was reacting somewhat like Dolly. Except
he wasn't doing the marking thing, he was hurt and stressed because someone
took HIS place.

Well my babies are like any other group of babies. I figured out, after a
trip to the vet to eliminate any physical reason, that Bart is feeling
pushed out by Nicky. So I have started making sure I hold Bart more and he
gets his old place by my side in the bed at night. (Nicky had taken over
that place, plus getting up in my chair beside when I am on the computer.)
These were both Bart's favorite places/times.

Gabby's previous owner said she just "anything cheap". So Gabby is still
having some digestion issues with the change in diet. If I need to I will
take her to the vet for a checkup. Gabby is also learning to use the inside
potty. She had no diaherrea last nite and used the potty. So she is
learning.

Martha, Jewell and Mary are all fine. They are my standby babies. I can
always know they come when called, eat and sleep and enjoy being with me.

Becky is doing fine two weeks after her spay. She is into everything and
not ready to settle into a routine.

That leaves Nicky and Dakota who are both a bit aggressive. So far no
fighting, just peeing contests and a few rumbles now and then.

Now the cats tend to view all of the dogs antics as totally bizarre. Dark
Angel, Peter and Paul are all full adults and just don't think too much
about all the doggie doings. Tag is a huge young guy that like to chase
Gabby as he is twice her size. I'm working to stop that as it really scares
Gabby. She runs from him screaming bloody murder. Leah and Sarah are just
being kittens. They are developing their bodies and personalities now.

So now I have written a book.
