That brings back memories with Paco. He is a very Alpha chi. When he was 12 weeks old, he growled at me when I tried to put his halter on. Right then I knew I would have to establish alpha and started training him. He was furious mad at me lol When I first did the exercises with him, he was so frustrated and mad he would have a tantrum and squeal like a little piggy.. But he is such a good dog because of it. Confident but listens..He is 10 now..and starting to turn gray..hard to believe. PAM m

Both Dolly & Desi (well Dolly was very sweet) got scolded for doing things that they should not. Desi was like Don Diego Tomas and was into everything and doing everything and I had to scold him many times. I think that first time that I blurted out ‘Go to your area, NOW!) was the second day that I had him…I didn’t know that he could understand that, but he went running! He also had a habit of wanting to chew on me, so I would gently turn him over on his back and wait for him to relax…and I haven’t had to do that for so long that I can’t even remember when. Both of mine know when Mommy speaks they better listen and act! It is always trial and error and hit and miss since each furbaby has his own personality but one thing I have learned is it doesn't matter if the dog is 3 or 100 lbs..they need to know you are Alpha and they have a set of rules to follow. I think that is why so many Chis have a bad rap as being snappy and out of control. Because they are so little and cute, people don't treat them like dogs and they become little Hitlers..lol..cute little Hitlers but Hitlers nontheless.. If not, they seriously need to be. If it is not hormonal, but domination, then I will share a shortened version of my story when I met my husband. He had a very psycho Jack russell who did not play well with others and I had my two Chihuahus. All three were males..but his is a large 23 pounds and mine 3 and 6 pounds..no contest. His Jack would just attack for no reason and I could never leave them alone together fearing injury to mine. He had never neutered Jack whi ch was adding to the problem so we had him neutered. That helped some..but basically what I had to make Jack understand was I was alpha in the pecking order. If he attacked the Chis, it had consequences..Not only was Mommy seriously unhappy but he was chastized and separated in another part of the house. He is not fed first, given treats first, or treated as Alpha in the pecking order. If any of the three starts trouble, they are equally chastized. I still don't trust Jack enough to leave them together when I leave the house..my Chis are in the bedroom, but under my watchful eye, he behaves.. I have two chis, both girls, I have Bruiser and the "other" Monster. We rescued them both off the road near our house about three years ago. They were dumped in March in very bad weather in an area heavy with coyotes, (an unfortunate but common practice here). Anyway, Monster was a juvenile at the time, Bruiser, a young adult. Bruiser was the Alpha of the two, well as time goes by, Monster is now bigger and struggling to take over the Alpha spot. Poor Bruiser doesn't want to give it up, and as a result has lost two front teeth and has an assortment of other minor cuts and abrasions. I have tried EVERYTHING I know to stop them from fighting. PLEASE! If anyone can suggest anything I would appreciate it! Thanks, Pam No virus found in this message.
