I always had Dolly in a gated area. When I got her, I had just moved to my
house here…a brand new construction home and I didn’t want her roaming around
when I was out. Then when I got Desi, I bought another one and gave him half
of the master bathroom. He did well there, but as he grew I would put his gate
across the doorway of the master bathroom and the master bedroom. It has been
quite a while now that I have moved him to the living room. He seems very
happy and confident there, also. I think that this gives them the time that
they need to themselves. If I am to go next door for a little while, I will
let them know that I am going, and usually everything is OK when I get back –
when I don’t put them in their areas. At first, they would be so grateful to
see me come home, but they are getting better at it. They were just confused
at first because they had never been left alone without being in their areas.
Most of the time they get along real well, so I am prepared at the beginning of
2012, to move Desi’s area by Dolly’s and they will share a common ‘wall’ but
still have their own area and will play with what they have and Dolly can have
her food. Right now if they have a blanket with their bed and a few treat toys
where I hide their treats they are happy when I say I have to go…they go
zooming to their areas because it means treats (I think) and when I come home
they are laying in their beds and then when they see me they get all excited.
When I am home they play together or lay next to each other in the recliner…I
guess I am very thankful that they have really become good friends and with a
few exceptions they like to be with each other. I am very thankful that I have
them…they get me through my tough days and I get them through their tough days.
 God is good!

Joan, I’ve been looking a some puppy play pens. I would like to get them and
buy the extra panels, so I can set up adjoining pens so all 7 dogs will have a
private place to be.

Hi Judy,

I am thankful to you for rescuing and taking care of all those little furries.
I know when I have to scold Desi for something I usually just put him in his
area with no treat and I will even sit with Dolly in the chair where he can see
us. He paces back and forth and then after about 30 minutes he comes out
again. I am wanting to put them closer to each other when I go out, but fear
what might happen. I have moved his ‘gated community’ to the living room all
the way from the master bathroom. He is very happy there and he has some toys,
a puppy pad, a bowl of water and usually about four little treats hidden in his
treat toys to keep him occupied. With the Christmas tree going up very soon, I
will put his gate around the Christmas tree because I just bought a new tree
skirt. When I leave, I will just move one end across and have his area next to
the tree. After I take the tree down, I think I will put his ‘gated area’
attached to Dolly’s so that they are by each other but there is the golden
fence between them. I don’t think that anything bad will happen because they
are getting along so well. I can’t put them together because Dolly is a free
feeder and I would have to pull her food up because Desi would eat it. That
would be OK if I was leaving for an hour, but sometimes I am gone longer
because everything here is so spread out and if I am going somewhere fairly
distant I try to do more than one errand.

Well, happy Thanksgiving and I am glad that everyone gets their special treat
today J

Joan, Dolly Dee, and Desi Lou

Joan, I have forgiven the dogs. All got a thanksgiving breakfast and will get
a Thanksgiving dinner. My cats all got a Salmon dinner for breakfast. Ruth
the new cat even came out of hiding to feast on the canned Salmon. Libby my
parrot got a special breakfast. We are all so blessed and thankful. Three of
the cats and 2 of the dogs were rescued this year!

That should help. I guess the rest of the doggies are not having extra treats
tomorrow!

They need to be thankful that they didn’t kill her.

Right now mommy is really mad at us. She went to town and left us all loose in
the house. We decided we don’t want any old dogs living with us and tried
again to kill Jewell. She is ancient about 12 or 13. We ripped her leg pretty
good.

Mommy furious and says we will get put in our crates from now on and Jewell
will be loose. She cried and loved on Jewell and put all kinds of medicine on
her leg.

Now we are really sorry!
