If I cry little Becky or Joy are immediately there to wash the tears away. There is always somebody on my lap and a nice orderly waiting their turn. I now have 3 watch dogs and they don’t miss a thing (Joy, Mary and Becky). It seems each has a duty of some kind (the smallest 2 – Gabby and Nicky) are my snuggle babies. Martha and Jewell are the steady matrons that are always watching mommy. I got fully moved here about three months after my Mom passed away. I had actually been talking with her over the previous several years about getting her a puppy. She said she didn’t want one, so I told her that when we move here I will get a puppy and name her Dolly Dee. Mom’s name was Dolores, so once in a while I would call her Dolly Dee. Two days after all of my stuff was here, I saw the cutest dog bed in Costco and so I couldn’t buy it unless I had a dog. There was a pet store across the street so I went there to see the puppies so that I would know what kind of dog that I might adopt at the local no-kill shelter. Only thing bad about that plan was that the first couple of puppies were very hyper and with my spine injuries it would not be such a good idea. Then I saw this little blob of blond fur and the head was not visible because she was in the window with a dachshund or a beagle and her head was under its ear. The moment that I held her, she was so calm and just rested in my arms right at the top of my chest. I was holding her and saying to myself that I just came here to look so I could go get a dog at the shelter, but the longer that I held her, the more in love I got with this little girl. I was at the pet store almost two hours because I was playing tug-o-war in my brain. The puppy that I was holding won out…and that was how I got my little Dolly Dee. I cannot remember a day here without her. She was always so calm and so sweet. She would play and I would throw her toys and she would bring them back. About 16 months later I had a big spine surgery and that rendered me more restrictions and Dolly would follow me around and if I sat, she sat right by me. If I walked to the kitchen to get a drink, she followed me there. I started feeling so bad for her because she deserved to be able to play. That is when I decided to get her a sister. We went to a local breeder to see some of the puppies that she had, and she only had two puppies ready to go home. I don’t know what it was, but this little dark blob of fur had something that made it that I couldn’t leave without him. So, it wasn’t a sister, but a brother…and that is how Desi Lou got his home with us. I feel like I hit the jackpot…both are so sweet, and although they are not always happy together, they do get past it. I remember one time I got up and Desi stood up on the arm of the recliner and was stretching to get some of the food on my little TV table. I told him ‘no’ and he sat back in the recliner; then I walked a little further and I looked and there he was trying to get the food again. When I told him ‘no’ the third time, is when Dolly did her Chihuahua-talking to him and he sat down in that chair and did not move a muscle. More and more they are right next to each other. I think that Scott asked if I had to pose them to get those pictures that I attached that were for the calendars that I made for my neighbors and good friends. Sometimes I have to corral Desi and then he realizes he is supposed to stay there. But after Scott made the comment I went back and looked at the pictures, and if they are both laying on their outside cot bed, their bodies are right next to each other and actually they are perfectly aligned as far as them having their heads and tails right next to each other. The one with their orange clothes on, Dolly just happened to lay her head on top of Desi’s back after I pressed to take the picture, but before it actually was taken. I am happy. I think that they are happy. And, I feel very blessed because they were really meant to be for me. They will come running if I am crying (or pretending to be crying). I did pretend about a week or two ago. Dolly & Desi were in the living room in the recliner. I told them that I was going to take a shower and get dressed. Normally, the two of them will either run to the bedroom then, or within two minutes and they wait for me on the bed. I took the shower; got all the knots out of my hair; put the Vaseline on my feet, and put on all of my clothes…and no Dolly or Desi. I started thinking that if I died they probably wouldn’t even find me until Desi got hungry. So, I pretended to cry and in less than 15 seconds I hear what sounds like a herd of horses, and they came flying into the bedroom and up the puppy stairs and each one took one side and was giving me kisses faster than anything. I told them it was an emergency drill and that they did real good…LOL From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Judy Moon Sent: Saturday, December 17, 2011 5:28 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [Chihuahuas] Saturday 12/17/2011 That is so true.
