Emiliano used to use a litter box but after 2 and a half yrs, it got stinky, no matter what I used to clean it with, so I threw it away and bought a new one. Well, it was a different color and a different shape, so he wouldn't use it. So, I bought one of those pad that has like Astro turf on it, he wouldn't use it either. I bought a holder for the pads and he wouldn't use the pad if it was on the holder. So, now, if I am not home he goes on the pad which is on the floor but will wait and goes outside about 97% of the time. Gloria In a message dated 1/20/2012 2:29:00 P.M. I have tried putting one of the puppy pads on a puppy pad holder on the patio where the rain can’t hit them. I started in the summer/fall so that they would get used to it. Desi used it a couple of times – I think probably just to mark it as his – but he is the one that will go outside in the morning and water his favorite bush and then if he has to poop he always does that outside (exception is if I go to a doctor or multiple errands and am gone longer than he can hold it, he will poop on the puppy pad in his area. With the better part of the last three months being basically sleeping all day from the chronic sinus infection and then the edema from my back and knee. Once in a while – but can’t even remember when, both he and Dolly will jump out of the chair and use the puppy pad. Dolly wants nothing to do with going outside if it is really windy, smells like rain, or if it is cold (but she has been going out much more in the cold lately…and then she can run faster than I thought on the way back in the house.) Nacho will do the same thing. As for the potty pads, my daughter uses them for her weiner dog and she gave me a few of them. Nacho looked at me like "what! you want me to go in the house..REALLY?...lol...he wouldn't use it. turned and walked away...lol..If Nacho was smaller he wouldn't be going out in the cold or snow either. He doesn't like it anyways. It doesn't take him long to go and he is running back in. Sometimes I have to make him go out. He doesn't like the rain either. If there are leaves on my porch (which there is all the time) he will go in them just so he doesn't have to go out in the rain, the little sticker..lol.. Then I have to clean my portch..lol..what we don't do for our babies. I have never used puppy pads. I would take Nacho out right after he would eat, and then every hour until he knew to go out.I would always say "lets go outside and potty". If he did something on the floor, I would show it to him and say "you go outside to potty" and take him out. Didn't take him but about a week and a half or two to learn the word outside. Nacho is a very smart chi. I also gave him a treat when he was a good boy and I still do. > > Patricia > > > > > > Welcome Patricia and Nacho...Great to have you. I have met some super people in the group - and they have been very helpful to me with my new chi..I have 2 other dogs (among cats/bunnies/birds/guinea pigs), but always wanted a chi - that dream came true this November when I got my Charlotte (she's white with merle markings)...I have been puppy pad trained by this group (hee hee) and I was able to train Charlotte with all the help from these folks...(I never thought in a million years I'd be ok with a dog going on puppy pads in the house). But...she's so little (3 pounds @ 3 months old)...I couldn't imagine her trudging outside in the snow with me and my other dogs (who I considered small until I got Charlotte). > > > > ENJOY THE GROUP... > > > > Lynda > > > > > > "I wish my book of life was written in pencil … There are a few pages I would like to erase" > > > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "Patricia" <p_nacho49@> > > To: [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) > > Sent: Friday, January 20, 2012 10:49:37 AM > > Subject: [Chihuahuas] New to Group > > > >  > > > > > > > > > > Hi, my name is Patricia Holley and I live in Abilene, KS. My baby's name is Nacho. He is 5 years old now and spoiled rotten. I got him when he was 8 weeks old. Nacho was advertised as a tea-cup and I paid for a tea-cup but he isn't. He is a toy (or the next one up). He weighs about 7-8 lbs now because he has gained some weight from where I had him fixed. I will post a picture of him as soon as I can find one...lol...have lots. Glad to be here and thank you for letting me join your group. > > > > Hugs > > Patricia > > >
