I am holding little Gabby and not so little Jewell on my lap. Jewell is
from Puerto Rico and was horribly treated there. She is now about 12 years
old.

I hear some say you must show your dog who is boss. I partially agree.
With pups I do start teaching them the rules of the house. With Jewell she
has been so abused that she is very defensive. She will growl and bare her
teeth occasionally. I will not hit her, ever, even if she bit me. She has
seen the worst of men. I want to show her the best. I've had her 9 years.
She will be leaving me all too soon. I think Jesus can heal her heart and
her body. But meanwhile I will love her, cherish her and do my best to undo
what those horrible Puerto Ricans did to her.

I think God lets me get these dogs that have been horribly treated because
He also gives me a boundless love for them. Jewell's mind is slowly leaving
her. It won't be long until the Lord's arms will comfort her and make her
feel safe and loved. Until then I will NOT TRY TO SHOW HER WHO IS BOSS. I
will show her who loves her! Even if I have to love her with bleeding hands
nothing will make me slap or abuse this little bit of God's creation.

Gabby shows many of the same signs of abuse, but I think she is much younger
- maybe 5 yrs. Unlike Jewell her spirit has been crushed totally. All I
can do is to love her and pray there is a little spark of spirit I can fan
into a brightly burning flame.
