HI all,
I'm reading all the posts about luxating Patella with great interest. We've
dealt with this in a couple of alpacas over the years as well as arthritis in a
couple of our big livestock guard dogs. In both cases, we have given them
Synovi G3 to help them. Our vets love it and give it to their dogs. In fact, we
had a client's alpaca who developed this problem in both rear legs. After our
vets examined her (and it was clear those joints were popping in and out at
will)they consulted with the vets at Oregan State University who told them they
had seen really good results with Synovi G and they would recommend putting her
on it to see if it helped tighten up her ligaments before considering surgery.
They also also that even when surgery turned out to be the only option, they
had found that there was generally less inflamation present when they did the
surgery. This girl did eventually go on to have surgery with excellent results
and we kept her on the Synovi throughout her recovery.
So - when and if my little guy shows anything like popping knee joints, that's
the 1st thing I'm gonna give him. Valley Vet has it and some vets carry it.
With the LGD's, at 150lbs,their dosage is on the high end so we don't bother
with the canine formulation, we go straight for the Equine formulation. But a
chi is so small that the stuff would last a long time.
Also, Dr. Rob Pollard is a vet that has worked up homeopathic remedies for dogs
and alpacas. They are really good. Here's his website address if anyone wants
to take a look..http://www.llamadocherbs.com/

That's all for now...I really need help with potty training our little guy but
I'm gonna put it in a separate post.
