When Dolly was 9 weeks old is when I knew that the shaking was not nervous but
cold. Of course after that, she had blankets but her first dress was not for a
while. I still have it, and it almost fits her except for the chest. If it
had been a tshirt material, then it would probably still fit her.

Then I had a few more dresses and she knew where I put them when I washed them.
She started going by the nightstand (where they were) and crying and whining.
I didn’t know what she wanted. I kept trying to figure it out. So, I opened
the one drawer and didn’t see anything that would have been what she wanted, so
I opened the other drawer. If she didn’t get all excited; her tail started
wagging and she ran to the stairs at the bottom of the bed and came up to where
I was sitting. Almost reminded me of the Price is Right and they were saying
‘Dolly Croft, its time for a new dressie.’ I put it on her and she was happy as
a clam. Shortly after that she started doing it more frequently and then every
night. I found that as long as she has something that is hugging her chest,
that she is fine. It could be that is where she loses the warm blood or
something.

When I got Desi, the little chubby guy that he was, he wanted nothing to do
with blankets, let alone clothes. In December, I started seeing him shake in
his area – the master bathroom. Then I took a look – cold tile floors, his bed
was next to the cold porcelain bathtub. I had a little sweater from Dolly that
would be OK on him. After that, if I take off his
shirt/sweater/hoodie/whatever, he just sits in place where I took it off and
does that little ‘poor pitiful embarrassed me’ look and shakes. So, on goes
something else. I know that Desi & Dolly communicate in some way – and
sometimes I don’t hear a peep but they will be looking at each other and at the
very same second they start running towards a particular toy or something. So,
I don’t know if Desi wanting a shirt on him was something that he picked up
from Dolly, or if he really wants it for himself.

One day, Dolly had layed on the patio where there was dirt and some moisture.
When she came in, I said ‘Come on Dolly, let’s put a new dressie on. I walked
to the bedroom and who do you think had followed me – Desi! I kept calling for
Dolly, but he would not budge. I said ‘You want a new dressie?’ and he just
sat there and started wagging his tail all excited. Now I can’t get him to do
anything unless I replace what I took off. I did manage to get the shirt off
of him the other day so that I could measure him. He was already on the
Security Guard job watching none other than Miss Diva Dolly. So every time
that I came near him with the camera he would stop, but then he would keep
running around and around Dolly. Not sure if he wanted me to put him in the
stroller or something, but he wouldn’t do anything until I had the new shirt in
my hand.

In the summertime, they have little shirts or tshirt material dress, and I have
read that is good because if they stay outside a long time in the sun (Dolly)
they can contract skin cancer. She is so light in color that it makes her more
susceptible, and she will lay out there sometimes for an hour. Desi…I don’t
think he has as much risk, but he wants to have a shirt on, so I do it. I
guess we can’t be too careful. Depending on the season, Dolly will lay in
different places. In the mornings, she will usually want to lay on the slab
where there is no patio cover. Then as the day goes on, she will lay on one of
the little dog mats here and there. She barks and I go out and she takes her
head and looks down where the mat is, then up at me, and then over to where she
wants it. She is a little Diva alright. One day, I took all the little flat
mats and I put them in a semi circle so that she could just move and not have
to bark each time. I think that I might have just had surgery, or been
sick…just remember that I couldn’t keep going out there to move everything to
where she wanted to lay. We have such high speed winds here that sometimes I
have to go looking for her mats. Sometimes they just blow and get caught under
the plants that I have on the perimeter of my yard, but I have also found them
down the side of the house.

The other thing that makes Dolly & Desi cold is the cold tile floors. I try to
have dog beds here and there so that they can lay down to rip a toy apart (LOL)
or rest. But sometimes they are playing and then run over to me and their cold
feet are on my bare leg…they are freezing. I know that transfers to their
blood stream.

Well…that is all that I can say about the clothes thing.

Judy - I've seen your doggy's clothes - they're adorable.

I think it's ok to wear clothes on your doggy if the doggy is ok with it.
Charlotte says 'nope nope don't put that one me' - so I wish she was as
cooperative as your kids. I think she might be more prone to go out in the
chilly - but when I put anything on her - she just stands still and shivers...

I think I saved the one picture of your kids in xmas outfits (?)...I'll have to
check - it was the cutest thing..

I buy clothes for my dogs, but they are simple, useful styles. I try never to
humiliate or make fun of my dogs or cats.
