I'm just too chicken to cut Ceci's nails. She is SO tiny and I worry I'll
do something to hurt her. I'm the worrier I guess.

I can’t cut Dolly & Desi’s myself.
Dolly has the nails where the pink is all the way to the nails when they are
‘long’ and Desi has the dark nails. With either one of them, I run a huge
risk of cutting the quick; so I take them to the groomer whose owner lives
in my community. They cut them very good. I took them a few days ago on
the way home from the vet. I heard no screeches but could see on Dolly’s
that there were two where they had to stop the bleeding from the quick.
They told me that when the air is exposed to the quick, then the quick will
start going closer to the paw. I do see a change in Dolly’s nails…but this
is over a two year period…they are still long by many people’s standards. I
did read in an article about the ‘original’ Chihuahuas that their nails are
significantly longer than most dogs. I don’t worry so much about something
being wrong, and just take them to get their nails trimmed once a month. On
the 20th of each month I give them their Interceptor and take them for their
nail trim…it may not always be on the 20th exactly, but they do get their
nails done once a month…it is $5 each, but I could never do them
myself…however I have never tried it recently and they may be used to it
being done…but I think they would pick up my anxiety over being afraid to
cut them back too far.

Rico does that too. This morning I smeared peanut butter on a plate and he
let me cut a few nails without screaming like a little girlie-man because he
was so distracted by licking the peanut butter.

When I take my Chi to the Vet you can hear him crying all the way to the
waiting room when they take him in back. The techs have actually come out and
told me we haven't even touched him yet and he's crying. Poor baby..drama
