Just some interesting FYI

I was reading a magazine and came across an article on Sperm Whales. I was
very surprised to learn how many different parts of the mammal were used in
so many of our daily products and foods. It states that the blubber is used
in ice cream, collagen moisturizer lipstick, margarine, soap, suntan lotion.
The spermaceti oil is used for omega-3 , pharmaceutical and health
supplements, golf balls, hair dye, candy, detergent, tires, biodiesel
additive, health drinks. Tongue and meat are used for Sushi, animal feed and
fishmeal. Cartilage is used for Chondroitin (for osteoarthritis), and other
pharmaceutical products. Pancreas is used for Insulin. Penis is used for
leather for furniture and bow ties. I am surprised it isn't used as a
bully-stick, the way the cattle are, lol.

Many believe that the secret ingredient in Chanel No.5 is the ambergris.
Ambergris runs second to gold at $20.00 per gram. The article said that there
is a war going on for it. There seems to be a conflict over the laws for
obtaining ambergris, some say it is legal because it is considered the waste
product, others say it is illegal because killing sperm whales is illegal.
Read below what Ambergris is......

Encyclopædia Britannica:
ambergris, a solid waxy substance originating in the intestine of the sperm
whale (Physeter catodon). In Eastern cultures ambergris is used for
medicines and potions and as a spice; in the West it was used to stabilize
the scent of fine perfumes. Ambergris floats and washes ashore most
frequently on the coasts of China, Japan, Africa, and the Americas and on
tropical islands such as the Bahamas. Because it was picked up as drift
along the shores of the North Sea, ambergris was likened to the amber of the
same region, and its name is derived from the French words ... (100 of 395
words). In other words it is the dung of the sperm whale! YUK!
It seems that ambergris changes it's odor once it has floated around a lot in
the salty ocean, and then washes ashore to dry out. Although the smell itself
is not prized, the fact that it has the ability to enhance fragrances like
perfumes is what makes it so valuable.
