Tino is very lucky to have you! Thank you for rescuing him.

My Desi Lou came from a local ‘breeder’. She did not remove the dew claws
before there was blood flow to them; and he had the dangerous type of
cryptorchidism. The lady that bought his littermate brother was taking him to
the breeder for all of his shots. She charged $10 each, and so I told her
that my vet charges $10 each and every time he does a full exam. So she went
with me to the vet a week after Desi was neutered (no less than five incisions
in order for him to free the floating testicle) and his littermate brother had
the same problem. I wanted to sneak a peek at his father, but I think that the
other lady must have told her what Dr Bullard said about it happening from a
sire that had the same problem and should not be bred. But, that lady was also
not a good pet owner, because even with my vet telling her that he would have
this problem and should be neutered right away and NEVER bred because all his
puppies would have this problem…she told me later that she still wants to breed
him a couple times so that she can recoup her cost of Desi’s brother. I guess
it must have went in one ear and out the other. I think that the litter that
Desi was part of, was one of the last ones before she started breeding
exclusively to get teacups. So, I guess that may tell me that she doesn’t
think of the puppies, but only the bottom line.

My guess is that they were the type of owners that did not care for their
animals at all. Probably since he is so young, he got the mange from the
mother, which should never have been bred, and never treated him. He probably
had the worms from birth also. They just let him deteriorate to the point that
he nearly died. The first time we let him out to meet the pack, I have never
seen a tail wag like that. He just stood in the middle of the room and stared
at everyone and wagged and wagged with this total joy. My husband said he
landed in the butter bucket and he so deserves it.

Oh, that is good news so that Tino can play with the others. And…it is good
that he just has a respiratory infection and not KC. I almost cried when I saw
his sweet little face all pink and bald. I wonder if the owners didn’t take
him to the vet and just thought he had some horrible condition that could make
them sick…some people – unfortunately – are like that.

No, this is not the scabies type. This is the heriditary type. All dogs, and
people, for that matter have some on their skin but it is when the immune
system is compromised that they multiple to a point that they make problems;
same as yeast infections,.

You don’t have to separate Tino and Bino when they go out potty? Is the mange
contagious?

He is snotty but ok. I keep wanting to wipe his nose but he takes care of that
with his tongue..yucky lol. For the first time since wednesday he made a sound
in his crate in the den. I heard this very soft, long, whiney and walked in
and there he was standing on his hind legs wanting to be picked up..lonely.
Now he is asleep beside me on a blankey while I play on my computer. See his
poor ravaged face.

Attached find pictures from day 3..The first one is Bino, my other tiny white
Chi. I think they will look so much alike when tino is healthy and mange free.
The others of Tino are after his first bath.

Pam…Dolly has had respiratory infections since I got her at 8 weeks. I should
really own stock in Clavamox right now. The Benadryl is a good idea. Going to
the vet with her so often not only hit my pocketbook, but my poor sweet Dolly
was always so sick. That is when I put my medical history to her. Now…this is
after almost three years…I asked the vet with really the last one that I took
her for, if he thought that keeping her on a lower dose of the antihistamine
(the one that he was giving me then was Atarax) and we tried that; it was
pretty expensive getting it from the vet, so I called the pharmacy and found
out they had that same exact strength. The vet writes me an Rx for a good
amount of pills – so the per pill cost is much lower – and I told the vet that
sometimes I don’t recognize that I have to up her dose when she is starting to
sound gurgly…and he told me to always give her a whole pill. She has been so
good after that. Just want you to know that even if his respiratory infection
becomes chronic…just remember that a low dose of something may prevent him from
getting sick again. This is, of course, information that you need to discuss
with your vet if he gets another respiratory infection. It may be that the
anesthesia from neutering, or being so close to other dogs – the sneeze spray
can travel very far – in the shelter. Prayers for Tino…and Dolly Dee says to
tell him that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Well we are home again. This is going to be our million dollar baby. He has a
temperature and an upper respiratory/sinus infection but his lungs look fine.
He got some nose drops as no matter how I tried I couldn't teach him to blow
his nose. lol. and Benedryl . So hopefully he will kick this soon. Other than
having to breathe through his mouth, he seems ok, eating etc..

They gave him the KC shot, so it just maybe like us when we get a flu shot, we
can still have symptoms. The KC shot should avoid it from turning into
pneumonia. They some times have to try a couple of different antibiotics to see
which one will work, so it is good that you will get him to the vet early
tomorrow. It is important to give him the Pedialyte a couple of times a day,
so the KC doesn't cause dehydration. Add it to his food if you have to.

Poor baby......please try not to be too upset, but KC can last 3-4 weeks, the
stronger the dog the faster they get over it. Your doing everything that you
possibly can. I feel bad for you both.

Think the little one has kennel cough. When I took him into vet his nose was a
little runny and he was a little coughy but since no fever thought it was from
the tube for the anethesia. But this afternoon he feels very warm to me and
his nose is so stuffy he is breathing through his mouth. Looks like back to
the vet tomorrow. Although don't know what much else they can do for him as he
is already on antibiotics. Last thing he needs. Will call them tomorrow
morning..Big sigh.
