I trim Gigi's all the time. It makes her look better kept. I also cut the
fur off of her pads and in between the pads. She has a better grip on the
floors and doesn't slip as much. I find it safer to keep the paws trimmed,
so they don't have an accident when they try to jump up and down and off of
things and then the rear paws slip. I also trim Princess's for the same
reason and they both love it when I am finished.

If you were to send her out to a groomer for a bath, they too would trim the
paws for safety reasons, as well as it does make the dog look better kept. I
don't have to trim Gigi's ears, as she has little feathering on them. If you
think that Stella would look even cuter with her ears trimmed, then do it!
It won't hurt her and the fur goes back in fast anyway.

I love your statement....big fuzzy slippers, LOL!

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Long hair question

I've been lurking here for a while, and now I have a question. Those of you
with long-haireds, do you need to trim the hair on their feet? If I don't
trim Stella's furry feet regularly, she looks like she's wearing big fuzzy
slippers. She also has out-of-control hair on her ears, but I don't trim
that. People have asked if she's a papillon, she has such long flowing ear
hair. Since I don't know everything about chis-Stella's my 1st, I've had her
for 3 yrs so I've learned quite a bit-I'm just wondering if this hair thing
is normal or if she's some kind of rare furry-footed snowshoe chihuahua...in
other words, a freak lol
