Good grief! There is more we have to be aware of! Well, better to be
forewarned, huh! I wonder if our little local vet has heard of this... Will
have to check
Thanks!

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Snap-3DX: HW, Ehrlichiosis, Lyme, Anaplasmosis Test

Has anyone had this test done on their dogs, rather then the regular HW
test? First time I am hearing about it.

Snap 3DX Test

It is called Snap, and you can get either just the regular Heart Worm Test,
or the Snap3DX test , which test for HW, Lyme disease and EHrlichiosis, or
the Snap4Dx test which test for HW, Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis, and
Anaplasmosis.

The 3DX only cost about $7-9 more, so it is worth it. I have heard that
Erlichiosis has been on the rise for the past couple of years.

Ehrlichiosis is an infection with parasitic leukocytic rickettsiae
especially by Ehrlichia sennetsu, which produces manifestations in humans
similar to those of Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

Anaplasmosis is a disease of cattle caused by a blood-infecting protozoan
parasite, Anaplasma marginale, transmitted by bloodsucking flies and ticks.

Dogs infected with Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, and anaplasmosis may fail to
display any clinical signs. For dogs that develop clinical signs, the
diseases can look very similar. Signs include fever, lethargy, lameness or
joint pain. Research has shown that if a dog is infected with more than on
of these tick-borne diseases at the same time the likelihood of developing
clinical signs is increased.
