Sounds like a genetic problem or Parvo.

If I got up he lifted his head and watched til I came back. And the last thing that little sweetheart did was to use the last of his strength to snuggle closer to my foot. He was so loveable that even as he lay dying he just wanted to be near me. The house is quiet.
