Dolly's nails must be genetically long. I had the vet cut them way back...to where they were not even visible...when she had her knee surgery. After that they grew and grew until they could be cut where there is no quick at the end. I had someone who did a very good job to cut them. The last time I took both of them to the groomer place to get their nails cut, I could hear Desi screeching...so I stood close to the open door and he screeched several times and the lady was telling him not to screech that it's not that bad. When I put them back in the car, Dolly was licking her paws excessively and when I looked all but 2 nails were cut too far and there was dried blood all over. I need to call the owner - who lives in my community - because I don't want that lady doing their nails any more. DEsi's nails actually are long also before they bend. It is close to the time to get them cut, so we will see how it goes this time.
