So sad.....chis are popping up all over. Seems like the summer and right
after christmas is the worst times for dogs to be abandoned. I know so many
rescues that are trying so hard to find permanent homes so they can make
room for all the new ones in the shelters. So far 4 CA shelters are way
overloaded with chis again, SC, MI, TX, Maine, NJ, FL shelters are all
loaded with them. At least the NJ shelter had rescues come in and take 8 of
them. Now we have about a dozen on LI in rescues that need homes, They came
from SC and an out of state hoarder. Yet when I read the papers and ebays
classified, and people still insist on breeding them. Tears my heart apart
and makes me angry at people who insist on bringing more into this world,
and I really wish that something could be done about it.

I read some where that statistic show for the chi, that out of a litter of
6, 3 of these dogs will land in a shelter some where along their life, and 2
from this litter won't make it to their 5th birthday, either from sickness,
or accident, or street abandonment, depending where they are. Pretty crummy
odds for the breed.

I also find it so hard to believe when there are almost 18,000 (yes the
number has risen a lot in just one month) on Petfinders across the states,
that any person could say they couldn't find one to adopt or rescue from a
shelter and then buys one. Something is wrong with that kind of statement,
and I personally don't think that those people really try. JMO

BTW, Susanne I commend you for volunteering at a shelter, and trying to make
a difference in their lives while they are there. I can't imagine how awful
it must feel when any dog isn't there the next when it wasn't adopted. It
takes a special kind of person to be able to handle that. So to you I say,
May God Bless you!!

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I went in to volunteer today! Harbor Humane
Society in west MI got in 8 Chihuahuas over the weekend. All ages and colors
If you are considering another pint sized companion call them and check it
out!
