Hi Everyone,
First, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your advice so far. Merit is doing well in his
new home and we are having lots of fun together!! I am happy to report still no
accidents in the house!!
Second, we have a problem-- Merit cannot, absolutely cannot, deal with being
more than a few feet away from me without crying and whining. If he is occupied
with a bone and I sneak away, he will be ok until he realizes that I am gone,
then I will hear him whining in my room.
This morning I took him into the bathroom while I showered (because my
housemate was asleep and I didn't want him to whine and wake her) and he JUMPED
INTO THE SHOWER WITH ME. So, I washed him :) Now he's really clean!! And he
loved the bath :)
But he cries and yelps mournfully for the first 2 minutes or so of being crated
when I leave the house. This isn't really a big deal when it's the daytime, but
I like to leave the house for an hour each morning to go to mass while my
housemate is still asleep. I don't want him to wake her up!!
Any advice for teaching him to be quiet when crated? He likes his crate and
will voluntarily go in it to sleep when I am there, but once I leave he starts
crying LOUDLY. I do give him lots and lots of exercise and social time. I have
yet to be away for more than 3 hours at a time. So it's not an issue of
boredom-- he also has plenty of toys which he will happily chew on if I am
there.
ADVICE, please!!!! This is wreaking havoc on my schedule. He does seem to be
improving each day, and I am being patient, but I want to know if there is
anything more I can do.
Thanks for reading my super long email-- hope everyone is having a wonderful
day with your adorable pooches :)
