When Dolly was tiny, I had an ex-pen (still do) and I would put her in there, tell her to watch our house while I was gone, and then give her a little treat. It was only a couple of days when I didn't even here her crying before I left. Now...if Desi sees me putting on my make up he does the happy dance and runs to his area, Dolly runs to hers, and they are happy that I am leaving. They get their cookie and then I imagine they get some rest. Can you put Merit as far away from your housemate's bedroom? Practice the leaving while your housemate is not sleeping. Do it and leave for two minutes. The next time be gone for five minutes, then 10...I think that he will learn really fast that Mom is just gone and she will be coming back. For a while, Dolly would hide her treat and then when I got home she would pull it out and eat it. Maybe she thought it was her reward for watching the house??? LOL
